Memory Tests for Parkinson's Patients

My husband's memory is quite bad. We saw the Parkinson's nurse this week and she said she could arrange one for him but we would have to wait a year for it! Such is the state of the NHS in the UK.

I did a search to see if there had been any posts about online memory tests or if anyone had any recommendations but nothing came up.

Also if anyone has found anything that might help to improve it.

Thanks,

Sandy

Is there any chance you could get to see a private practice psychologist and just pay for it? And same idea maybe go over the water to France or Belgium or Ireland??

Thanks for your suggestions. I didn't know that psychologists did memory tests. I will look into it. He would not want to travel. He has chronic back ache and travelling is a problem.

En attendant de trouver un test, faîtes lui de l'aromarothérapie et essayer du he de romarin à cineoĺe. Il est sans danger

Thanks for the suggestion. I used to do aromatherapy but became sensitive to the oils. Anything I use on his back for his chronic backache that contains essential oils really affect me.

Hello ~ I’ve been giving my hwp TruNiagen 1000 mg for 3 years now. His memory is very good. It’s expensive!! But it seems like the things that help the most are expensive! To me it is worth the cost.

And why do you want to do a memory test? And what will you do with the results? (I may be a bit naive).

You can also web-search nootropic supplements. That’s how I found TruNiagen.

Bkesdings!

Thanks for your response. I have recently been reading about NAD and NAD+ supplements as well as Nicotinamide Riboside.

It was the PD nurse who suggested a memory test. I guess it would show how bad his memory is. She said that his neurologist could suggest some things that could be done about it depending on how bad it was. Not that he wants to take any medication for it. We would rather natural solutions although he baulks at the idea of taking any more supplements!

Supplements seem to be a huge part of our lives now!!

It will be interesting to see what the neurologist suggests. Please keep HU posted.

Have a fabulous weekend!!!

In the UK we use an ACE (Addenbrooke's Cognitive Examination) as a tool for examining possible memory and processing ability problems. Although Psychologists can do them and often do, there are fairly low skilled clinicians and trainees trusted to do them as they are not that complicated. There is also the MoCA (Montreal Cognitive Assessment). Both of these can be administered by a novice who has read a guide and has a modicum of intelligence. However be aware that if you do have them done, I'm not making any recommendations that you search Google for pdf's and guides, you could, but they can preclude you from having the test done again for about 6 months.
