GLP-1 Drugs and Parkinson's meds

I am on the traditional carbidova levodopa regimen. I am thinking about starting a GLP-1 drug for weight loss. I have not talked to my MDS about this yet, but I will. First, I wanted to see what people on this forum have to say. One of the ways the GLP-1 drugs work, is they delay the emptying of the digestive system, making a person feel full a lot longer. It has always been a problem for me that it takes a long time for my Carbidopa Levadopa to get into my system and bring "on" time. If my digestive system is slowed down, won't this greatly affect the ability of my meds to get into my system? I would love to hear from anybody here who is taking Parkinson's meds and also taking a GLP-1. Thanks in advance for any comments!

Hi PP. I am taking monjaro and have lost abt 45 lbs over 5 months. At first some limited nausea but went away quickly. The one real issue on any of these glp1Drugs is constipation which u have to learn from trial and error how to deal with. I am on the leva carbidopa together with entacapone. I haven't noticed much of a problem with the pd drugs and of course loosing the weight really helps with a lot of other issues so speak with your doc for sure u have no other potential conflicts.

Good luck.

I have no problems with a GLP-1 agonist and LD/CD or pramipexole. I also briefly took opicapone. In the Phase 2 Bydureon study (and it was a nice study) they were on their usual meds. In most places Bydureon is not available, so you have to find another GLP1 agonist. Get help in deciding which one crosses the blood brain barrier.

Of course your situation is different and worsening of delayed gastric emptying may be problematic for you. Try it starting with a small dose.
