Here’s some English Information about BikevoorParkinson, an initiative by ParkinsonNet and ParkinsonNL, BikevoorParkinson is a regular event at the Cauberg Cycling Festival at Valkenburg near Maastricht in the Netherland. Individuals with Parkinson's disease, their loved ones, caregivers, and other stakeholders hop on bicycles to literally make Parkinson's disease disappear from the world.

What is BikevoorParkinson?

During the "Philippe Gilbert Cauberg Classic," BikevoorParkinson aims to create connections, raise awareness, and collect funds for projects combating Parkinson's disease. This money is dedicated each year to a specific cause or project that contributes to improving the care provided to individuals with Parkinson's disease.

In 2024, the 10th edition of BikevoorParkinson will be launched. In this anniversary year, we will cycle to establish a common national information platform on Parkinson's disease. Currently, the Parkinson Association does a lot to provide accurate information, and other alliance partners also have websites with valuable information. However, with the number of websites and organizations, people do not always find the best resources. That is why we want to join forces and develop a common platform where individuals with Parkinson's disease or parkinsonism and their loved ones can find the right information about (the treatment of) the disease. Creating and maintaining such a common platform costs a lot of money. That is why we will cycle for this purpose. We will also seek financial partners who wish to supplement the proceeds from BikevoorParkinson.

Cycling helps!

Radboud UMC has proven that cycling has a positive contribution to fighting Parkinson's disease. The center has conducted research on cycling and Parkinson's disease, among other topics, and found that cycling has a similar effect to medication for people with Parkinson's disease. All the more reason to cycle together!

Act, pedal

Take action, pedal on Saturday, September 7 (free for individuals with Parkinson's disease), and support Team Esperanto. For more information, visit voorparkinson.nl.

To my surprise, there is currently no English website for "BikevoorParkinson's". However after some searching, you find a French link: philippegilbertcaubergclass...

Hopefully, we can change that by 2025, and that there will be a real international representation. This year, on September 7th, I will have a trial round, as registration for this 10th edition was quite last minute.

Join team ESPERANTO at this last moment as a participant or sponsor, and let's take action together to raise awareness for Parkinson's! You really don't need to be a professional; whether you ride a racing bike, an old touring bike, or an e-bike, it doesn’t matter. Together, we can truly make a difference! Let’s join forces for a better future for everyone living with Parkinson's. Your participation and support are crucial!
