That's good news for worms with Parkinson's. Hopefully, it is applicable to PD in humans as well.

[Sorry, I've gotten somewhat jaded from all the failures in rodent models.]

Any metronidazole tablet will kill it. I tried, but I couldn't control it.

But seriously, I believe Berberine battles the Desulfovibrio bacteria"

"In conclusion, BBR can significantly reduce the abundance of Proteobacteria, such as Desulfovibrio, Enterobacter cloacae, and inhibit LPS production, effectively prevent serum LBP elevation (Zhang et al., 2012), regulating intestinal permeability, attenuating insulin resistance and improve metabolic endotoxemia."

ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articl...

I take 1200 mg of Berberine a day (not that this is a good idea. I have no medical training).

Hi Bolt_Upright . For how long time have you been taking Berberine?

Bolt_Upright profile image
Bolt_Upright in reply toSowtwareDeveloper

I have been taking 1200 mg of Berberine for over a year.

Here is an old post of mine that lists a lot of things about Berberine: Toxicological Effects of Berberine and Sanguinarine 2018 healthunlocked.com/cure-par...

I took 500 mg Berberine 3 x a day for cholesterol and blood sugar for several years. It worked for that but now I have stopped it. Maybe I'm way off, but from what I read, not sure if it is helpful or harmful regarding PD. Can you elaborate on Berberine a little? Thank you.

That's interesting, I took berberine for 3 months. I ran out and stopped around Christmas time. I've felt pretty rubbish since then but they're are tons of confounding variables. I've been trying to introduce new things slower as I've have a tendency just to take everything all together and hope for the best! The issue I'm having I was taking renew by science, but it turns out that it's only 150mg but it's 'Liposomal' which apparently has better bioavailability.... But it's $50! And you can get 1000mg non-liposomal for about $20, so I can't decide what to do.

SIBO is a digestive issue that can happen in Parkinsons.

"Although every patient will experience symptoms unique to their physiology, the top symptoms of SIBO include excessive gas or belching, constipation or diarrhea, acid reflux or indigestion, and abdominal pain or discomfort associated with the previous symptoms"

"The third and most recently discovered subtype is Hydrogen Sulfide (H2S)-dominant SIBO, characterized by excessive bacterial production of H2S gas. This type is associated with diarrhea presentations and involves certain bacteria like Escherichia, Klebsiella, Proteus, and Desulfovibrio"

My husband went to a GI doctor who treated him for SIBO. She first had him take two courses of Rifaximin and this did not work. Then she had him take Metronidazole and this seemed to get rid of the problem. She was also having him take Align probiotic.

This is a bacteria not a parasite. Also, antibiotics, FMT, Helminthic therapy would be the best way to go imo…along w a in depth supplementation protocol to shift the micro biome.

"The worm Caenorhabditis elegans was used as the model organism."

My grandad used tobacco to flush worms from dogs. He fed them chewing tobacco and waited for them to shoot out diarrhea.

When this Finnish news was news a few months ago, I found an article according to which metrodinazole kills this bacillus with 90% efficiency. Unfortunately, I can't find it now. I tried it, it didn't get worse, I will use it again soon.

Regarding the Desulfovibrio bacteria, there are a number of treatments that studies have shown to be effective. Here are a few of the supplements / probiotics and articles that cite them (below). You might also try a low-sulfur diet:

drruscio.com/wp-content/upl...

Prebiotic: Agave Inulin, from organic blue tequilana weber agave (not inulin from chicory).

(The brand I use is: Z Natural Foods Organic Agave Inulin Powder, Natural Fiber Supp.)

ARTICLE: pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/262...

[Reduces desulfovibrio bacteria by 40%: "Desulfovibrio were depleted 40% with agave inulin compared with control." Take only one tablespoon daily. Drop into 1/2 cup hot water, stir till dissolved.]

Other things that might help:

Probiotic: Bifidobacterium Longum BB536.

Brand: Life Extension Bifido GI Balance.

ARTICLE: ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articl...

ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articl...

amazon.com/dp/B007GAQOJ8?ps...

Butyric Acid. Brand: Tesseract Medical Research ProButyrate Gut Health Supplement.

["The gut microbiome and its metabolites can impact brain health and are altered in Parkinson's disease (PD) patients. It has been recently demonstrated that PD patients have reduced fecal levels of the potent epigenetic modulator butyrate and its bacterial producers." See article below:]

ARTICLES: ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articl...

amazon.com/dp/B075BRR1JJ?ps...

To restore gut balance, I have been using this for the past 2 1/2 months:

Probiotic: cultures of L rhamnosus, E faecium, L plantarum, L acidophilus,

Brand: Symprove Mango and Passionfruit, 2 LT.

[A study found that, after three months, Parkinson's Disease (PD) symptoms were vastly improved. Four bottles last about a month and cost $169. A three-month treatment would cost between $507-$674. "We conclude that Symprove treatment may have a positive influence on the symptomology of early-stage PD with obvious implications for the improvement of gut integrity and possibly delaying/preventing the onset of neuroinflammation and neurodegeneration in human PD patients. Jan 18, 2023".

[These probiotics are also available in less expensive pill form versions.]
