smoking and pd
Yes I smoke a Pipe, it really helps me with my mental clarity.
No, I don't but my HWP's symptoms appeared to start when he gave up smoking in 1993 ie he's never had a good night's sleep since and seemed to drag his right leg a bit when walking fast, but he was only diagnosed in 2005.
I tried smoking to see if helped. Didn't, but got hooked again. I have since quit again.
The concept of smoking being beneficial in parkinson seems to be a reverse causation. I think data suggested that prevalence of PD in smokers is lower than in PWP. However, digging deeper they found that people with parkinson seem to have an easier time quitting smoking, which is what might drive the reverse causation. I think from this it's more of an early sign of Parkinson if you are / were a smoker and find it really easy to quit.
Yes, my father who had PD chain smoked. He started smoking in high school. He was diagnosed in his 50’s with PD. He died from emphysema.
I (his daughter), have never smoked a day in my life but was around all that 2nd hand smoke. I was also diagnosed in my 50’s with PD.
Recent research shows the benefits are connected to nicotine. Model showed injection via water. Has anyone tried this therapy.
I smoke since 1972 at the rate of 1 P and 1/2 per day (50 years!). I started to reduce my consumption in 2021 and now I am on 6-8 cigarettes a day for 20 days; I must say that this reduction was not easy and at each level, I drag my steps for a long time before moving forward. I received two different diagnoses: Synd Parkinsonien by two general neurologists and Depression with conversion phenomena by two psychiatrists.
Never smoked, heard that nicotine can help PD symptoms so I tried a STOP SMOKING! patch. I cut it into thirds and applied one to my arm and wore it all day. After several days I decided it wasn't doing anything and quit.
