It seems so simple: Put your running shoes on and go. But start the wrong way and you can hurt yourself -- or be burned out -- in no time.

Great chart! Thank you for posting!

You are correct ~ one cannot just take off and go without taking it slow!! That is not just for PwP’s!

Have a fabulous day!!!

I walk a mile and half, 2 to 3 times a day (weather permitting)...

I find that it is important to concentrate on doing things correctly--to keep your brain and your muscles coordination fine tuned. So when I walk, I try to walk correctly with arms swinging with my steps (left hand swinging with right foot and right hand with left foot). At first this took maybe 50 steps for me to do right (now almost naturally). I walk with a pipe because of neighborhood dogs and notice changing which hands affects the swinging hand in left almost naturally, but right hand maybe 20 steps (now almost a natural).

there’s a wonderful app called “couch to 5K” and it prompts you to walk or run within a 30 minute window. gradually over time, you build up to a 30 min jog. You can listen to your own music or podcast or whatever and it just prompts you to run/walk. More walking then running for first few weeks. Even tells you when it’s the halfway point to turn around.

First learn to walk then....

Rucking is a form of exercise involving walking. Basically throw some weights into a backpack and go for a hike. I threw an engine flywheel into my backpack and walked on my treadmill, varying the speed and incline from zero to 15% grade. It's something I did years ago before PD. I'd go jogging while wearing the weighted backpack. Taking off the backpack after an hour was incredible. I felt like I could fly. But that was years ago. Yesterday I dropped the backpack and needed a nap.
