Yesterday I had a visit by a home-care nurse. Medicare provides that nurses come to your home to document that you're still able to live on your own: Taking meds, eating and showering, etc. She walked in and immediately remarked, "Wow. Did you read all of these books?" WTF??? I understand that millennials prefer devices to books but how does one get to be a nurse without reading real books on medical or surgical care???

I guess I passed the test. She took my BP and watched me walk across the room and touch my nose with my index finger. And ultimately announced that I'm doing well.

In my old office I had kept books on floor-to-ceiling shelves on three walls and several shelves in the supply room also filled with books. It killed me that when I sold the practice the new millennial owners didn't want them. Hundreds of texts were literally thrown in the trash.

What has happened?

Wow. How shocking to hear her remark. They read online now, but still. You wonder about her education. Kinda off putting when she's there to evaluate you. She's probably never been to a library or seen anybody's home library.

I really like those shelves, where did you get them?

Yes hubby and I are always shocked when we go into homes with no books, and dismayed to find that young people don’t even read their ebooks much!!

It’s probably a bad sign. Congrats on keeping your independence!

My daughter is a librarian. She found the shelves in a crafts store. They're meant to look like old library shelves but they're brand new.

Well done for still keeping an impressive book shelf. I reduced my shelves to a quarter of its original size by giving so many books away

How much do you still read compared to your younger days? Does PD affect your reading or your enthusiasm to read?

Changing times! Who knows what people will be using in 40 years

I have to admit, these days I spend a lot more time reading on my laptop than reading books. Mainly because I'm a hypochondriac; I like researching Parkinson's on pubmed or google scholar. Whatever has been published and printed is already old news by the time I find it.
