Looking for Bay Area Psychiatrist

I'm looking for a psychiatrist in the SF Bay Area who understands Parkinson's and related psychiatric issues. My MDS is at UCSF, she referred me to their sleep/psychiatric specialist -- no openings until January. My current Psy-doc has finally (after a year of polypharmacy for sleep...) that she hasn't worked before with PD patients. the meds are affecting my cognitive abilities (short term memory, executive function), or maybe it's PD?? Actually probably both...

I'm sleeping, but groggy and slow in the daytime with the cognitive deficits mentioned...

My prodromal symptoms were depression, anxiety and insomnia -- dealt with that for the past 20 years. So not surprising that it's the complicated part for me.

Any suggestions for Psy-docs in the area (or who do telemedicine) would be much appreciated.

psychologytoday.com has a list of psychologists, a lot of them offer telehealth.

I just read an article that said 75-90% of illness stems from emotional stress and trauma. I think asking for help is brave.

I agree. Try Yelena Zalkina, a very fine psychiatrist. I do not know whether she is taking on new patients, however. She is very well-connected, provided me with positive references for one of the neurosurgeons slated to perform my DBS as part of my surgical team. Office is (415) 661-5667. I think the world of her.

Beckey! Thank you so much. I will try her. It’s good to hear from you! My “tocaya” (in Mexico they have that special word for people who have the same name). I’ve been warned away from UCSF and Stanford psychiatry, and the psychiatric NP I currently work with is clueless about PD and says all the psy-docs she would feel comfortable recommending, are either not taking new clients, or retiring. Anyway, thank you and best of luck with your surgery.
