Has he not been well?

Yes, it's been a long time. Hope he's okay.

Dave,

Thank you for asking.

Just sat down at the computer 2 mins ago for the first time in a week.

Surgery (for spinal stenosis last Monday) went well, but lots of pain still. Lots. They said I should be able to walk 30 - 60 mins 2 days after being home. I'm still shuffling around the house with a walker.

(I may not attend the Zoom meeting tonight, unless I fill up on Oxycodone.)

Thanks Marc. I am praying for the pain to fade away. Do what is best for yourself.

I hope the pain subsides quickly Marc and hope the op works for you. Unfortunately it didn't work for Glen 🙁

Sorry to hear that. What happened? Did he have a laminotomy?

glenandgerry profile image
glenandgerry in reply toMBAnderson

It was a discectomy and something else but can't remember ìf it was a laminotomy as it was 2.5 years ago. It didn't work for Glen, if anything it made the pain slightly worse as there is apparently some scar tissue touching a nerve.

Sorry to hear that.

As well as the discectomy Glen had a decompression apparently. Hope your procedure soon brings some relief.

Marc, My thoughts are with you; I hope you continue to feel stronger with less pain every day. My father-in-law had a laminotomy 10+ years ago and it helped immensely. He's 89 now and though he experiences pain triggered by certain things, such as sitting or standing too long, he golfs 1-2 days per week. Walking makes it feel better!!

89 and golfing twice a week! Sounds like heaven!

Yes, Marc. I'm praying for you as well. I don't know anyone who's had back surgery who was able to walk 2 days after their surgery. Hope the pain subsides quickly.

Glad to hear that " you are under repair ", Marc, but not so excited about you using oxy.

Just a thought, Marc, it might be possible to make a topically applied oxy gel that you can apply to the painful area while greatly lessening systemic exposure. One call to your local compounding pharmacy will quickly give you an answer!

pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/259...

It's only an animal study, but it was done in 2015 and perhaps your compounding pharmacist can do it now or another topically applied pain reliever that might be as or more effective while allowing very little systemic exposure?

I hope your recovery goes very well, Marc!

Hoping your back feels better soon Marc, sounds like you are doing well if you are moving around after a week, albeit with your walker. Best wishes for your recovery.

Feel better MBA .. . Forget about the two days schedule, you will walk when you're ready and you feel like it... but, I will bring the high hurdles over in 4 weeks!!

Feel Better my HWP had lumbar fusion at L5/S1 correcting 2 pars fractures. Had to use oxy for 1st week, then alternated oxy with OTC pain med, after week 3 off oxy. He occasionally has severe pain, but his pars fractures splintered into nerve roots (40 years old) causing nerve damage, but spine is stable. They also have him on gabapentin for the nerve damage. He is able to work, but he does most exercise in a pool, bc it is non weight bearing. Although!! family skied in March, he insisted on skiing the last day. I was SCARED for him, PD and a back with Screws! Made sure he was dosed with C/L and had kids scout the runs. He did 3 medium (blue/green) runs, he was a good skier so the muscle memory stayed and he did not fall. I think it was good for his mind more than anything else. He is in no hurry to do it again (it was taxing), but somehow I think it made him feel "normal".

Get well, it will be up and down, blessings for an excellent recovery!
