Individuals With Parkinson Disease Are Adherent to a High-Intensity Community-Based Cycling Exercise Program:

Abstract only - the rest is behind a paywall.

There is also a Supplementary Video where one of the researchers talks for about 3 minutes while standing beside a Peloton bike.

I wish someone would give me a Peleton.

Hi Marc,

Before you jump in head first to a Peleton, I have always had this concern that that style of bicycle seat is highly likely to be irritating to the prostate gland and then I read these:

cyclinguk.org/blog/olivercw....

prostatescotland.org.uk/hel...

urologytimes.com/view/bicyc...

prostate.net/can-bike-ridin...

When you consider the amount of pressure per square inch you are placing on such a relatively small area of your body, and I often have, it is almost crazy to think that you won't have problems in that area at some point in time. That's why I brisk walk instead.

I am truly surprised that there is not a better standard bicycle seat. I think the even narrower 10 speed bicycle seats are just begging to have prostate issues with everyday usage of a 10 speed bike. At least memory foam on top of an air cushioned seat would make much more sense for something you are planning to use daily that has zero in terms of a suspension system!

I've thought about that. I have a large, comfortable spare seat at the ready.

I bought a used gadget ($50) that attaches to the rear hub of my bike that converts it to a stationary bike which I'm about to set up ( - unless I can still worm my way into one of the trials where they give you a Peleton.)

Well, the CYCLE II trial is still recruiting:

PS . Oh, I see they are only accepting people near the Cleveland Clinic and U of Utah.

Oh well, you would probably have had to give the bike back after 12 months anyway. :-(

You can get the same benefit from a decent road bike and your trainer. I have a high end fluid trainer and I can mount any of my bikes to it and go for a good cardio workout in my garage.

I am into cycling and one of the things I encourage folks to do is get a proper bike seat.. spending a few extra dollars on a proper anatomical seat is well worth the pain and discomfort you will suffer down the line.

Would love a bike seat recommendation, never found the proper one over the years, thanks.

Serfas makes great seats . I own several of them. The RX is really nice. I also own a Terry No Buzz seat. It's great but a bit pricey. Sorry for the late reply, I am getting over a bout of diverticulitis and work has been busy. The heat and humidity have been rough.. it seems the heat likes me less as I have gotten older. I still work in the field so I am lucky.

Ponie,

Thanks for your seat recommendations. Will check them out and pay up for the right one. Sorry about the diverticulitis, just what you needed. Same here with the heat, used to love to play golf in 95 degrees as it loosened me up. Now I just stay in when it's too hot and humid. Hang in.
