Grapefruit reduced carbidopa-levodopa?
I use GJ in small amounts, like 30ml. I find it helps with C/L absorption.
I take my Stalevo (levodopa, carbidopa, entacapone) pills with grapefruit juice about half the time, I feel that it helps, but it doesn't for me, at least, make a substantial difference. Care needs to be taken, because grapefruit juice affects the absorption of many drugs (e.g. simvastatin). This needs to be discussed with your doctor.
I like the effect that gj has of prolonging the ldopa in my system, but have to be careful, because I do take two meds, 9ne is a statin and the other an SNRI, meds that are exacerbated by gj and gets me a bit high on the epinephrine and norepinephrine arousal, can shoot up my bp and heart rate, get overheated and sweaty, as norepinephrine and epinephrine will do, and takes a couple days to avert a crisis due to my medication's half-life, plus the fact that withdrawal from the med starts rather quickly so I must keep on it's schedule. Must take real care when dealing with grapefruit juice. . Watch out.
Just started gf juice last night. 6 oz 30 minutes before my husband took his sinemet .before bedtime. it seemed to have prolonged the effectiveness and it lasted longer then usual.
There was little interest. So much for grapefruit.
