It's not a hard test, but make sure you have support with you. I took it on my own and on the way out I saw the Dx confirming image in the technicians screen. While I knew for months I had Parkinson’s, it affected me quite a bit. All the best.

The whole ordeal was no ordeal. They handed me a pill to swallow. An hour later an IV injection was given. Then they said go to lunch, be back in two hours. We found a restaurant near Dogfather's Grooming and across the street from Hair Cutterie. I laid on an exam table. Felt-covered vise grips clamped my head. It took one hour. Initially someone was playing a recording of waves on a beach. Later I think I heard Carlos Nakai.

Dr Google warned of nausea and possible vertigo. Never happened and five hours later no problems. I see the doctor in two weeks for the results.

My husbands' dat scan did not confirm Parkinson's, but he responds to sinemet and has classic tremor and other symptoms.

Did they give you a reason for the tremors since the DAT scan was negative? The DAT scan means the body is not producing enough dopamine so....?

My DATScan was a definite confirmation that I had Parkinson’s. My Neuro went over all the films with myself and my husband and could definitely see the deficit in my brain. Confirmation for us but also a very sad day. That was almost 9 years ago. Take care. Karen

When I was first diagnosed 9 years ago I didn’t have tremors. Mine started with dystonia. I couldn’t walk. The dr first though it was MS and I had an MRI on my brain looking for lesions in my brain. That was negative on that. My tremors have began and progressed within the last 2 years. Good luck. Karen

Initially I was diagnosed with MS. In the emergency clinic they noticed my tremor. After two years on weekly Tysabri infusions they decided i might not have MS. Then they decided I had APS, a lupus-like clotting disorder. So I was but in anti-clot pills. Then someone decided it's PD. They started with Propranolol but ultimately changed to Sinemet. They're still pushing the Sinemet but I'm not taking it. I was hoping the DAT scan would give a better answer.

It should give you a definite answer. I’m on Cd/Ld, ,Azilect, Comtan, Modifinal and I get Botox injections every 3-4 months in my leg, foot to help with my Dystonia. When do you get your results? Karen

In two days, not the two weeks I had originally assumed.

a normal scan will show the basal ganglia with two full commas, mine was one side a full comma the other side a period......abnormal....confirmed the dx.
