Credit Parkie brought this to our attention.

For those who do not know, Dr. J is the neurosurgeon in Switzerland doing the FUS PTT procedure (which I had 3/11.)

The views expressed are those solely of the author and do not necessarily reflect the views of this station.

This paper will make you less fearful whether or not you buy into the theory.

off-guardian.org/2020/04/07...

That's me on the left and Dr. J in the middle and Dr. Gallay on the right. If this were a better picture, you'd see why I'm often mistaken for Brad Pitt

Thank you for this information. It appears that the infection rate and mortality rate are in line with other seasonal viral infections.

The problem with SARS-2 (COVID-19) is that it is highly contagious and is striking large groups at the same time and overburdening our healthcare system. True.

The purpose for stay at home orders is to flatten the curve - too many people getting sick at once. The media has seized on this to incite panic, like they do with sporadic measles outbreaks. It drives ratings and revenue.

We're going to have to balance the damage to our economy and the damage to our healthcare system which is also part of the economy. People need to go back to work and practice safe social behavior to limit the spread of illness - a behavior we are not accustom to here in the US.

The data we don't have is what percentage of the population has natural immunity OR antibodies to SARS-2. I suspect this virus was already circulating unrecognized and attributed to seasonal flu until it reached pandemic levels. I also suspect that some (many) people are naturally immune due to prior exposure to a related coronavirus and experienced mild or no symptoms of infection. That's the information I want to know.

I agree. I LUV Dr. J, but I disagree with a couple points. I don't feel we're panicked and there is something else going on here beyond the data he cites -- because 20,000 people died in the past month which doesn't happen yearly and the number of explosive clusters around the country also does not happen every year.

Looking good Marc!

I too like dr J. This one however fails my common sense check. I confess i skimmed, it won no awards for brevity, but it's theme was "it's not so different from flu and other seasonal epidemics". That doesn't really square with the experience in Italy or New York, where undertakers are unable to meet demand and hospitals full to overflowing. And that's after taking social distancing measures.

it is seriously long.

Saw figures last night in uk in last couple of weeks deaths way over averaged figures from same time period for last five years. And increase matched increase in corona deaths. Of people who had coronovirus and died they were saying 86% died because of. So this looks an underestimate. Check Dr Campbell's video on youtube.

nice picture, nice article, it's very nice to see you smile like that.thank you.

IMHO All numbers relating to the dead, infected, asymptomatic, in all countries are incomparable to each other. Everyone, because in an emergency situation everything happened, from the lack of reagents to the refusal of hospitalization by the sick themselves to the massacre of the residences of the elderly. We in Italy count all the patients who are positive as dead from the virus even if they had other serious diseases, while other countries do not. All numbers are not comparable because there are inconsistent and related incomparable situations.

I believe there are flaws in some of his data, for example: Scandinavian countries, number of cases, and others.

However, I think his paper is right about the general idea of overreacting and panic contributing in aggravating cases of covid19:

"Fear and anxiety are felt indeed typically at the cardio-respiratory level, with dyspnea (choking feeling) and heart palpitations.’’

And 24h / 7 day a week coverage, for weeks now, of the following, certainly affects people's health in a negative way, contributing to the downfall, provoking fear-based chain reactions:

"Images have been displayed all over the world of bad science fiction scenes, with human silhouettes installed in beds surrounded by alien-looking fully masked and dressed-up doctors and nurses, dead streets swept with gross disinfectant systems, the close-up picture of the initiating Chinese doctor with panicky eyes over a ventilation device"

Marc: if it's you on the left, you sure look like Dr J!!! And wearing his Sonimodul shirt too?

I do feel less fearful. However, I'm going to continue my obsessive level of precautionary practices.

It's good that you feel less fearful. I do too. I trust Dr J's opinion and I can overlook some of the data because I feel he is using it to make a general point.

I don't understand, you agree he looks like you, or that you are the one in the middle, (not on the left) in the picture?

I agree he's making a general point.

Quite a surprising take: fear has overtaken us all.

But here is a view point from a senior paramedic with 17 years experience in NY Emergency Medical Services. He has never seen any thing like this. The call volume is like a 9/11 every day.

32,000 Covid-19 deaths as of yesterday in the United States. Not including those many who died at home without having been tested. That’s just since March 1. Heartbreakingly over 50% of those deaths occurred in nursing homes. This is not normal.

I think it is important to note this was written at the end of March and the numbers have definitely changed since then. However still some very good points .
