The process of Lewy body formation, rather than simply α-synuclein fibrillization, is one of the major drivers of neurodegeneration

For the technical people: how well is this theory substantiated? Does it lead to any treatment of PD, especially stopping it's progress?

This is excellent basic research which may provide useful information to those trying to invent drugs to interrupt the processes that they have described.

I am not technical but would echo Park bear's comments. It seems to square the circle about possible conflicts in theories regarding a-syn, lewy bodies and mitochondrial stress. It provides a better theoretical basis for targeting a-syn mis-folding as a link in the chain of events which eventually cause neuronal death.

Which as somebody trialling a monoclonal alpha synuclein antibody and just starting to wonder if it helps is good news

Looks pretty good as to the theory. Seems to point well down the path of resolving whether LBs are part of the cause, which could be useful, or an effect or marker, which could help refine diagnosis but itself might not help develop a treatment, and the direction here is fairly nice in the direction of illuminating a cause mechanism or a segment of it. That's good.
