I have been having hypno therapy for 9years now. It helps manage freezing, pain and panic. Beware charlatans! I looked for a long time before finding Mr right!

In my opinion you are about 92% safe because 90% of hypnotists are frauds. The other 10% that know how to actually do it may be dangerous and may not all truly understand the consequences.

My father 50 years ago , worked in a situation that placed him along side doctors , psychiatrists and behavior scientists and he happened to have lunch with a doctor who was a known hypnotist. He mentioned in conversation that he wished he could stop smoking, and woke up alone. He never smoked again.

In later years the doctor treating Dads depressions said ( before drugs such as Prosac) that even if Dad had smoked he would have been better able to handle the stresses. The military of the world use it, I stay away from it.

Hi GymBag, I haven't been on the site for some time as I have had other medical problems to manage. Just having the skill of hypnosis is not the cure. The therapy is the key. If I remember correctly you are from the USA. Here in UK we have control organisations which accept only members with accredited counselling skills and experience. My PD consultant, PD nurse and GP worked with me and my hypnotherapist to devise a small scale trial to help me stop freezing (especially at night). It was succesful. I am aware that this treatment can used for dubious reasons but if you carry that to it's extreme humans wouldn't have an index finger because it can be used to pull a trigger. I was first hypnotized by dentist when I was 19.

Nope Canada. No regulations that I am aware of here , possible I am wrong. I was once before. Kinda like fortune tellers, palm readers, and the old women that gets rid of bad spells . They operate openly without need of license.
