First time I’ve watched your Blog, Ian. Thanks for that. I can totally relate to your “freezing “ of activity - getting so far along the road to accomplishing something and then not being able - or motivated?- to finish it off! Like you, I am an energetic “do-er “. But also like you, the task often seems to get frozen before completion. Is it the same as the physical “freezing?” It feels like it to me. Can we find the mental equivalent to rocking, something to step over or the distraction technique? Eg your vlog is the distraction which nevertheless names your task - might help you actually complete it! Finding a smaller job in your bedroom ( = stepping over to move on) might encourage you to lift that bed head - might as well, since you are already in the room! As for the equivalent of mental rocking - 🤷♀️- visualise yourself doing the task over and over again and one of those “rocks” might just tip you over into ACTION! And now I must try these for myself 😂 oh, btw, we met at Karl Stirling’s session in Medway. We are the Bristol boxers! Thanks for your vlog, distraction or not 👍
I wonder what percent of PwP have overloaded planning thoughts plus a high level of procrastination skills? Comparison to other subgroups?
I have realized that, of the 20 projects on my to-do list, only 5 are on my "excited about doing" list; and only 5 are on my must do - or else-list. Or-else activities usually have some penalty or negative reinforcement involved for not doing. Having porch step rails installed (they're already fabricated), planting winter grass to prevent erosion in areas where deer have trampled, attending to roof and siding issues which will worsen rapidly if not fixed. And then there are the projects that must be done prior to our children visiting over the holidays - the "remedy it before they see how we've been living " ones, such as getting rid of the literal cities of cobwebs at the top of vaulted ceilings, etc. I purchased grass seed yesterday, so I think I've earned a nap.
Thanks for your comment. I don't seem to be any more motivated by tasks that I want to do (as opposed to those that I have to do) - I just have real trouble in initiating action. Once I get started I seem to be okay, it's getting started that seems to be the problem!
Cheers,
Ian
For years I used the Nike slogan "Just Do It" as a way to block all the excuses, overthinking that prevented my initiating tasks. I shall re-adopt it, I think. My porch handrails are up, my rye grass seed is planted and sprouting, I refinished some worn areas on kitchen cupboards, paid tax bills - the trend is positive!
You are looking more relaxed.
Can you just pay someone to make the log store - then it will be done and ticked off. Where do you live?
