I have recently stared to get strong pain in my thumb and other joints or muscles and I was wondering if anyone else is having these issues and if so what are you treating them with.
Aches and pains: I have recently stared to... - Cure Parkinson's
Aches and pains
I have also pain in my left hand and left leg. I apply pain relief spray but I am told to have neurobion ( vit B2, B6 and B12 ) tablets.
Let me see if it works otherwise would consult my doctor. I don't want to take pain killers
I have been getting pain for about 1 year. Different parts of my body. Toes on left foot are the worst. Toes are swollen and curl under. Other pain in lumbar back, knees both shoulders and upper arms.
I have had many tests, seen a rheumatologist and my neurologist and no-one can give me a reason.
When i feel defeated i take an anti inflammatory.
Otherwise i just accept it.
I am stubborn and will not give in. (For now anyway).
My pinky finger pains sometimes and the pain is unbearable, I never got it checked and so far I haven't had any problem out of it. But at times I get worried because of my age.
Yes! Usually flares up in evening hours. Can be intense. All these triggers may indicate gout. Inosine helps me quite a bit though Doctor Knows Best. Diagnosed Parkinsonism. That was 1st movement disorder specialist just moved and kept changing appointrtment times due to balancing career & very young children. 2nd MD specialist educated in Germany and UK from Pakistan and I absolutely appreciate her openness and alliwingexchange of emails. Helps me thru off times. She believes I have right sided PD. Problem? The Parkinson "isms" stay on my medical records. I digress from subject again. Hope you go to your doctor soon. Ask about Inosine. Rigidity and freezing are part of my PD adventure. What have helped me the most is this group of Voyageurs, THE DEVELOPMENT OF THIS WEBSITE PROVIDES ME A WAY OUT OF SELF PTY. NO MATTER HOW I FEEL WHEN I WAKE UP AT 6 AM. I know that the inhaler is simple to use. Tho I wonder is it Narcolepsy that puts me in an exhausted or sleepy state that disappears as quickly as it came. My muddled head clears. Away! I shout to my temporary confusion . Hail to new drugs like Inbrija SO New my MDS suggested I email her with updates.
Reginald1,
Something that is helpful for pain and non-addictive is magnesium chloride oil which is commonly referred to as mag oil (MO) and comes in a spray bottle making it easy to apply to affected areas. Mo can stop cramps in hands, feet, arms and legs quickly. Relieve tension and pain in neck and shoulders. MO is an effective pain reliever and it relaxes the stiff muscles that you apply it to. Many people find it very helpful for pain in the shoulders such as frozen shoulder or torn rotator cuff and shoulder pain is fairly common in PD. MO can also reduce swelling in joints and is also effective for arthritic pain and backaches. It helps with neck pain also and can help relieve headaches caused by neck and shoulder tension. For people who tend to get cramps when exercising, walking or running, applying MO before starting can be helpful also.
MO works quickly once applied to the skin and is well absorbed so it can add to your total magnesium intake. MO is very inexpensive and can be found in well stocked supplement shops or online from any major supplement supplier. An 8 ounce spray bottle lasts for quite awhile and is very useful to keep in your medicine cabinet. An 8 ounce spray bottle can be had for under $10 making it inexpensive to test to see if it will work well for you.

Some of the forum members have found it quite useful and use it regularly! Lastly, magnesium helps the body to get the full benefit from vitamin d!

I am addicted to every Parkinsons medication that I take, think about it, we all are. We must try to limit the amount of ASA we take as long term use is hard on the body especially the stomach, but when I am passing a kidney stone I eat it like candy. I have the same symptoms as Deat above and if you have your toes curling under you will understand pain. Anti - inflammatory are very help full. I was taking 3 a day but they were ASA based so now I am down to one and some non ASA types. My doctor said I had been on a certain pain reliever too long . Prolonged use could cause problems in my digestive track that could kill me. I said who cares. Apparently he does.
GymBag,
When you say ASA, are you referring to aspirin?

Acetylsalicylic Acid
Asiprin is a form of Acetylsalicylic Acid but is a brand name owned by Bayer
there are many others
One way that I have found for myself to be able to use NSAIDS such as ASA, Aspirin, Ibuprofen and Naproxen that has for me avoided the gastro issues associated with longer term use of these products is to grind the tablets into fine powder using a bullet type blender. Mix the powder very well into a common hand or body lotion and then I apply this lotion directly to the painful areas such as hands, feet, joints etc. The relief comes on quickly and very little, if any, reaches the digestive system offering a viable option for me to get pain relief while significantly reducing the chances for gastro issues. I have since discovered that although Naproxen is the best pain reliever for me, I can not use that option anymore because it turns out that I am allergic to Naproxen. With aspirin I like to use the very inexpensive type that dissolves easily and has no protective coating on it.
In the case of Ibuprofen, I have found that I can use the "softgel cap" form to mix with lotion by poking a whole in the softgel with a toothpick and squeezing the contents into the lotion and this means no blender is needed. Oddly, topical ibuprofen is not readily available in the USA, but is available OTC in other countries.
Btw, the aspirin in lotion is also helpful for shingles pain and the aspirin component also helps to retard the replication of the shingles virus (Herpes Zoster) while relieving related pain. For me, this seems the safest approach I have found for using NSAIDS while minimizing the chances of having NSAID related gastro complications while reaching local tissue levels that are likely slightly higher than might be achieved using the maximum dose recommended via the oral route.

Thank you, very interesting
Never heard of using it that way
I will discuss with my wife
and try it
Thanks
GymBag,
The ibuprofen soft gel caps seem to be the easiest way to test it because all you need to do is poke a hole in the soft gel cap with a toothpick and mix it with some lotion and apply to the painful area or at least that is what I did. No blender of any type is required for this. I have found that they are all similar. The one drawback to the topical aspirin lotion that I have made is that in warmer weather, I might start to notice a slight smell of vinegar or silicone caused by the acetylsalysilic acid, but if you are suffering with the pain of shingles, the smell may be of insignificant importance!
The good part for me with this approach is that you can get tissue levels as high or higher, exactly where you want it than you can get with the max dose taken orally while very significantly lessening the chance for gastro issues.

It just seems odd to me that since we use so much ibuprofen here in the US that manufacturers do not readily offer it here??? They will let you swallow ibuprofen caps, but won't let you apply it topically??? I imagine a compounding pharmacy might make it for you with a doctor's prescription, but it may be too expensive that way to be practical.
