I would hope that research is also going on to find better ways to treat the disease, or even halt it. If we already have a means of early detection, then that would be perfect -- Diagnose early, and then take preventative treatment.
By the time PD is diagnosed 70 percent of dopamine is gone. Things like stress have a severe negative impact on dopamine. If it is known early that there are dopamine management issues, further damage could be delayed.
Actually quite a good question. Do we in fact KNOW of any measures that DO prevent or delay? Claims or hearing second hand are one thing, but do we know of any facts?
All we know is that smoking seems to lessen the incidence of PD as it is an MAO inhibitor. I guess if we knew earlier we could take azilect sooner and possibly delay the start of symptoms. Or not!
