Hi, mum has been getting increasingly more dizzy (72 year old, diagnosed last year), is currently on 3 x 62.5mg sinemet. Has had blood pressure checked and nothing untoward. Does anyone have any suggestions?
Dizziness affects her balance etc.. and makes her less mobile and in turn affects her mood etc.
Many thanks

Thanks cagey84 much appreciated. yes we have raised it with doctor; but she doesn’t have the dizziness on standing thing-has been tried. In addition to the slowly getting up stuff. She was on betahistine but came off as didn’t help. It’s odd; our neurologist not very helpful (another story) said reduce sinemet by 1 pill, suppose its a start
Sinemet can cause dizziness, you can try Meclizine which is in Over The Counter Dramamine try 1 tab first to see if this helps then may be increased to 2 tabs every 4-6 hours for dizziness. Be sure to have a blood pressure machine at home to check her blood pressure; if it's low this could be the cause of dizziness especially if she's also on blood pressure medicine.
Stazina, thanks for this. I'll check it out. Would be good to get a BP machine, because even though she's had it over the 24 hour period from GP probably better to get one over 24 hours. WIll try the medication if I can get hold of it.
I was having the same problem.I was checking my bp every day.It was very low! My doctor told me to halve the dose of my blood pressure medication.I'm fine now and my readings are more normal
I get this off and on. Vestibular. Something to do with eye/brain. A PT suggested this. Went to doctors multiple times who were no help. Eye exercises help. Raise thumb and hold about a foot from eyes, turn head to right and left but keep eyes focused on thumb. Helps me when I’m feeling dizzy.
Hope so. A very frustrating symptom especially when docs tell you to check your BP but otherwise are of no help. There are other eye exercises too, but that one works best for me. You can also move your thumb from side to side and follow with eyes only, not moving your head.
Neither. From my physical therapist. I take an exercise class with her each week. She's trained in the BIG program and works close to 100% with PD people.
hey ladyaudree thanks for this- yes am always trying to remind her to drink more, that and salty foods. At the moment, only thing helping is exercise, but thats tricky because she's dizzy and can't move around much
Am not a medical doctor but since I am living with PD I make it my business to understand every medication I take and there side effects
Currently my BP is normal however if I stand up too quickly or turn around too fast I get dizzy .I am Alizect , Rytary they all contribute to dizziness
Currently if I held my head down to tie my lace with my face facing the ground I get dizzy while if i execute the same movement with my face looking directly to my front I could tie my lace without feeling dizzy
Some Parkinson's disease medication cause dizziness, just before I was diagnosed with the disease I was hospitalized for Vertigo
Hey 👋 thanks for this. How do you cope with it now? First ever time my mum took sinemet she reacted so badly with spaced out and disorientation she was taken by ambulance because they thought she was having a stroke. Suffice to say, dizziness has been a recurring theme and seems to have got worse last few weeks.
Seems like it could be sinemet but then again I’m just attempting to tie cause and effect after observing my mum for a while now.
She’s probably going to go down to 2 x 62.5mg sinemet from 4 originally currently on 3
Hope you’re doing better with dizziness thanks again
