Jump to repliesVery interesting study. This drug was never tested or approved for use in Parkinson's in the first place, yet 57% of prescriptions are for Parkinson's patients. Not mentioned in the study is that there are potentially very bad interactions between Nuedexta and MAO B inhibitors such as Azilect or seligiline:
"Contraindicated
Never use this combination of drugs because of high risk for dangerous interaction
dextromethorphan-quinidine oral and rasagiline oral both increase serotonin levels in the blood. Too much serotonin is a potentially life-threatening situation. Severe signs and symptoms include high blood pressure and increased heart rate that lead to shock. Risk of psychosis episodes (psychotic) or bizarre behavior."
One more tidbit - dextromethorphan is the active ingredient in Robitussin DM cough syrup. Probably a lot cheaper to get it that way.
