Was this Total Copper (Blood), and if so what was your level?

urmc.rochester.edu/encyclop...

"Too much copper can be toxic. You can get too much copper from dietary supplements or from drinking contaminated water. You can also get too much copper from being around fungicides that have copper sulfate. You can also have too much copper if you have a condition that stops the body from getting rid of copper. For example, Wilson disease keeps the liver from storing copper safely and from sending copper out of the body in your stool. Extra copper in the liver overflows and builds up in the kidneys, brain, and eyes. This extra copper can kill liver cells and cause nerve damage. Wilson disease is fatal if untreated. Extra copper can also interfere with how your body absorbs zinc and iron. "

Whoever tested you should have made recommendation how to reduce copper. First of all if you take multivitamins make sure there is no copper listed as ingredient. You can supplement with zink which competes with copper for absorption, but have to be careful not to overdo it since you need to have a small amount of copper in your body. It's good to get tested for copper again or zink to copper ratio after a month or two of zink supplementation as these minerals need to be in balance.

Yes that is a bit high. What symptom(s) led your MD to do this test?

They were checking my blood for number of things.

I was supposed to have an appointment with Neuro today but only saw the pd nurse who mentioned about the high copper in my blood but had no idea what i need to do????? Apart from saying i should increase my meds which i don't want to do. He said it would help the tremor but I know other people who take far more sinemet

And still shake.

I am keeping my exercise which is the best for me.

Looks like faridaro and Astra have experience and good advice for this.

Me too. I had to take zinc which displaces the copper. I had hoped that would cure me but it didn't seem to make a difference.

My neurologist was concerned I was taking zinc as we apparently low copper is really bad as well!

Just check if you have circles outside your irises. Slightly rust coloured. It's possible you have Wilsons though I think that shows up when we are younger.

Do you eat a lot of dark chocolate? I think that has quite a lot.

My husband had to do a urine test a whole day and sent it out to the research to find out if he had wilson’s DiseaSe. They are sometimes observed in autoimmune hepatitis. So what test did you do?

Theyakin,

It is certainly frustrating to be told your blood tests show something outside the expected range and not be told its significance or what to do about it. I would recommend calling the office back to ask the neurologist to get back to you to discuss your results. If the doctor does not communicate outside office visits, see if you can get an appointment with your regular internist to investigate the significance and course of action. Further testing is probably needed to access significance.

In the meantime, take a look at possible sources of high copper from your diet or environment.

whfoods.org/genpage.php?tna...

Scroll down to see foods especially high in copper and think back to how much of these you were eating the week before your test or are a regular part of your diet. Make sensible modifications to your diet accordingly while awaiting medical advice.

Car exhaust from a faulty muffler can also be a source of high copper.

Keep us posted on what you are able to find out and how "the treatment" changes your overall feeling of Wellbeing.

Wishing you the best!

it means you need to get yourself to a naturopath who can give you a Spectrocell test and explain how to get the copper back into balance.

Second blood test was fine.

Maybe it was too much chocolate 😁
