I worked for about twenty months after diagnosis, as the general manager of a small disability service. It got harder and harder to do my job properly, I found it hard to organise myself and keep track of conversations and meetings. I was relieved to retire.

I worked for about eighteen months also. I was 69 and a half by then. I knew that sitting in front of a computer all day wasn’t healthy. I delayed because I’m the breadwinner and my partner was already collecting early Social Security so I was trying to save for the day when my care needs would be too much for him and Id have to pay for aides or go into assisted living. I finally realized that by being tired all the time and not exercising due to long hours and a long commute I was working against myself. I retired, started a regular exercise routine, joined some groups, spent more time cooking healthy and just relaxing. Since that time, with the addition of Sinemet and The LSVT BIG training, my PD has not progressed at all and I feel better than when diagnosed in 2015. One day at a time!

My husband was diagnosed in 2006 he was the headteacher of a secondary school he was 49 when diagnosed. He retired in 2014 when he decided he couldn’t do the job the way he wanted, the governors wanted him to remain but it was the best thing he did, he’s so much better now 😀

I ran my own large company, employing over 1600 people at the time of my diagnosis. My wife and I had started the company 29 years previously. I was not able to continue working because of my Pd and retired the very next day. It was the best thing I ever did!

Okay, I lost a lot of money doing that. But I later got my health back, because the stress I was experiencing while running that company was killing me.

Look at my profile and see what I did. Or look at my website - reverseparkinsons.net and contact me.

I am a self employed music teacher with piano pupils and a choir I train and conduct. Working is good for my brain and it makes me feel needed and useful. I'm 69 and was diagnosed eight years ago. I work just enough to make me feel useful while allowing time for my programme of therapy.

I was a school secretary, and loved my job. But after 8 years it became more difficult to sit all day without getting stiff. On more than one occasion I couldn't walk. I worried about a school emergency and my ability to be effective. I retired a year ago, reluctantly. Best decision! I am exercising more, and have more good days than before! If considering it, go for it, but only if you plan to improve your PD habits, like exercise, and make plans so you don't become isolated! Staying social is very important, in my opinion!

I am an owner of a small business, we employ 22 people. Diagnosed 5 years ago and I am still working, just a few hours less per week. Come in a little later and leave a little earlier.
