Anyone here living in or around Warwickshire, Uk? If so I would like to let you know about the therapy programmes and classes specifically for people with PD coming soon. I have briefly talked about what I do when responding to other people's posts and have been asked by some to share more information.

I am an OT with many years experience working with people with PD. I am PD Warrior and Parkinson's Regeneration trained, and I am a certified LSVT Big clinician. My dad was also diagnosed with PD a few years back.

Although 'Bigger & Better' is a business (I have to earn a living!) I hope that it will become much more. I want it to also be a social support network, with not for profit events and informal get togethers. I know from my Dad that not everyone wants to go to a 'traditional' support group, but introduce table tennis and a beer and it's a whole different experience!

If there is enough interest I hope to introduce a larger range of classes and social groups including singing, art classes, badminton, table tennis, yoga, pilates, golf, horse riding- the list is endless!

The emphasis for all we do will be on fun, learning, sharing and supporting, while trying to take control of PD and slow down disease progression.

Please let me know if you live in the area and are interested in joining us. My website is ebotherapy.co.uk/biggerandb... if you want to read more. Or give me a call on 07715884255.

Thanks,

Emma

Seamus606- Please come if you can.

(Excuse the copy and paste)

Emma will be giving an informal presentation at the Young People Living with Parkinson’s meeting at the Christadelphian Halls, Grove Avenue, Solihull on the 21st April. The meeting is 10-12 in the morning.

She will be discussing the benefits of therapy and targeted exercise for people in the early to mid stages of Parkinson’s. She will introduce the Bigger & Better 8 week therapy programme, as well as the range of weekly Parkinson’s specific exercise classes starting up in May 2018.

Everyone is welcome - young, old and all in-between!

For those of us who cannot join your group will you post information. I would like to know what the best exercises that can be employed to slow down the progression of Parkinson's.

KLDA Current research is recommending 2.5 hours a week of ‘intensive’ exercise- where your heart and respiratory rate are raised.

As everyone’s PD is different I really would recommend that you try to have an assessment with an OT or physio who is experienced in PD, and ideally PD Warrior or LSVT Big. If you don’t have access to a therapist have a look at the PD Warrior website- you can sign up to their 10 week challenge here. Please feel free to message me if needed and I can try to advise you further if I can.

Emma I’m in Sutton Coldfield and would likve to partake but just don’t have those funds. Some PWP may have been struck down post retirement with mortgage paid etc but we younger ones don’t have that luxury and have families etc to support whilst on PIP and/or having our pay halved due to long term absence from work. Shame as it looks excellent.

Yes I understand that. I am in talks with various organizations to get the 8 week programme subsidised. Fingers crossed!
