The reality of virtually all aspects of the central nervous system as well as the body in general is “use it or lose it “. With PD it is significantly accelerated and devastating. It’s true of all aspects of neuro plasticity, wether we are improving or losing, learning or losing... there’s no status quo.
The most amazing results with forced exercise with animals were done with rats on a treadmill. There were problems with it in that the “forced “ technique was electrodes applied to their tales would shock them if they slowed down. Hardly a wise approach to utilize with an aging human being.... some would question the use of it on rats.
Your comment on the motorized bike is correct. It’s relatively expensive. I’m of the opinion that for any exercise program to be successful long term it has to be perceived as fun and fulfilling. Otherwise it’s very likely to fail contributing to feelings of depression and failure.
