Subject: RE: TV commercial

Dear Ms. Mather

Thank you for contacting us regarding our disease awareness TV ad. We truly appreciate the feedback of patients, caregivers, prescribers, and the public at large. The medical literature supports that over 50% of patients may experience these symptoms over the course of their disease, yet only 10-20% will actively speak to their healthcare providers about these same symptoms. Our goal with this campaign is to raise the level of awareness about the hallucinations and delusions experienced by many patients with Parkinson’s disease.

The ad was created in consultation with neurologists, people with Parkinson’s who have experienced hallucinations and delusions, and their caregivers. It aims to shed more light on these symptoms and, more importantly, encourage people with Parkinson’s to discuss aspects of their care with their doctors. That said, we hear your concerns and will consider your perspective as we continue to educate the public and encourage open discussions about this serious condition among all those involved.

Once again, thank you for sharing your feedback.

Sincerely,

To Acadia Pharma,

This is the most misleading and deplorable commercial I have ever seen. It is not the face of Parkinson's you want to present to the public. Especially, the people who have Parkinson's. You are not representing the majority of the Parkinson's people, but the minority!! It's is a very bad commercial, which should be taken off the air. Shame on you Acadia Pharmaceuticals for this poor taste and misrepresentation of the disease. It's BIG PHARMA drugs that cause these problems, not the Parkinson's. Next time you make a Parkinson's commercial ask someone who has the disease!

Regards,

Lynda Mather

You should change the title this post so people who are concerned about this issue know what you are referring to.

Also, I think the only thing that will really get their attention is the threat of boycott.

Thank you for taking the time to write to this company. Their response while polite, is still patronizing. It is difficult enough to come to terms with this disease without being given images such as these. Certainly meds are useful but I think Parkinson’s is the current cash cow for big pharmaceuticals. Just my opinion.
