Checklist

I see so many symptoms on here that I also have, yet never see those symptoms listed anywhere else. Has anybody on here done, or could do, a more comprehensive checklist. For example, my skin is really oily, other people on here mention that as well. I think if we had a checklist that includes every possible symptom, it might be beneficial. Thanks.

My doctor specifically asked about oily skin. I also have that symptom.

Wow didn't know about the oily skin. My husband is pretty bald but his head is so oily.

I am only 27 but at 23 I started loosing hair like crazy along with an increase in oil. I would shower twice a day and still had oily hair and scalp. I am curious if there is a connect between hair loss and the abundance of oil produced due to PD.

I'm super oily all over, there has to be a connection. I've been that way my whole life, has anybody else?

Well from a suggestion I got somewhere here from someone I cannot remember who - they suggested I start making a diary. So I went online and created my own with all the symptoms I could find etc. Since my husband is recently diagnosed I fill this out for each time we visit to see if the meds are making any difference. Happy to share with you or anyone else who needs it. If you see anything that should be added let me know!! Thanks.

How do I save this?. I use an iPad. I want to show it to hubby with PD tomorrow. It's almost 2am. I saw a symptom of biting inside if cheek or tongue. I do that and I think the inside of my mouth is a little puffy from a medication for Fibro. I also bite my lip. Could these be from PD meds?

Tiger101 profile image
Tiger101 in reply to grandmama16

You could copy and paste this to a word document if you have that on your iPad or to notebook if you have that. Or, copy and paste this to your email and email it to yourself. That may work if you don't have the other options.

One other thing I added to this list is trouble turning in bed. It takes a lot for him to just turn his body from one side to the other.

park_bear profile image
park_bear in reply to grandmama16

I think the biting is from awkwardness using the muscles involved. Paying careful attention to the eating process is required to stop it.

Some lists are more imagination than what is really PD Tiger but yours is a good list and accurate. The only thing I wondered about is energy increased - I wish!

When do you have dyskenesia John?

JohnPepper profile image
JohnPepper in reply to Hikoi

How can have dyskinesia? I took the list of symtoms from my book. That symptom related to involuntary movements I experienced, long before I was diagnosed. You will notice the question mark after the bracketed dyskinesia. My right elbow used to flick up in the air, mainly whilst driving but occasionally at other times. I only found out what causes dyskinesia, long after the book was written.

Hikoi profile image
Hikoi in reply to JohnPepper

? What causes your dyskinesia?

JohnPepper profile image
JohnPepper in reply to Hikoi

You know as well as anybody else! It is caused by too much levodopa in the brain, or is that wrong?

bassofspades profile image
bassofspades in reply to JohnPepper

I have read in some studies that it is caused by damage to the B6 receptors from use of Carbidopa.

heres an expample

NancyJHP profile image
NancyJHP in reply to bassofspades

I've never taken any Carbidopa. There might be another cause. Maybe we should add to the checklist at some point which medicines people are on or have taken in the past. Speaking of which, I haven't gotten too far with that yet, I work full time and I am extremely tired.

Are you compiling a list of what people think are non motor symptoms so a bit like self diagnosis?

There are already well defined lists on the non motor symptoms of PD which I think are much more credible.

They are based on patients experience backed up by the science of what happens to our body in PD.

Trouble is it seems some specialists / doctors dont keep up to date so knowledge and care is patchy.

My husband's "sebum" began to stain the under zip cover I put on our pillows at least 10 years ago. Dark brownish yellow. I knew something was up. He washed his hair everyday. There was just no reason for it. He was diagnosed 2.5 years ago. You guys remember the Scottish lady who can smell Parkinson's ? It's the oily sebum she can detect. I just came across this article also linking in Rosacea - which my husband also has. (Though it never gets as bad as the photo herein.) scienceofparkinsons.com/201...

So is my husbands to the point it's flaking white stuff!! Especially on his chest, and legs and his head is oily.

Forgot to add that his primary care doc prescribed Ammonium Lactate Cream 12%. It's not cheap. This was before he was diagnosed with PD.

The only thing that works for my dry body and limbs is Norwegian Formula Deep Moisture Body Lotion Dry & Sensitive. But nothing works on my hands.

My husband has flaking skin and he uses dandruff shampoo on his face while he is in the shower. This is good for flaking and rosacea also. He lathers his skin with it and lets it stay on while is in the shower. It has pretty much eliminated the flakes and reduced the redness.

I've never seen the oily skin mentioned before but my husband has that on his forehead and it goes into his eyes. I gave him a soft headband to wear. Yes, I think there's a list of symptoms on this site somewhere.

Mine goes into my eyes, that only started within the last year. I had to stop wearing eye makeup.

Oily skin is a classic sign of Lyme disease, or one of the coinfections with Lyme disease (e.g bartonella). Search the web for “oily skin Lyme disease. ”

If you want another long list of symptoms, I recommend chapter's 10 and 11 of Dr. Janice Walton-Hadlock's book, Recovery From Parkinson’s, which is available for free download here pdrecovery.org/recovery-fro... . Chapter 10 (pp.139-154) addresses the many specific symptoms that have a specific location in the body. Chapter 11 (pp. 155-170) addresses body-wide symptoms.

Given that Dr. Janice employs a different modality (combining Chinese medicine with information from western medicine), I think you would do well to read the rest of the book, and her other work, too.
