My husband does not have an appetite for the evening meal and while I've been on afternoon shift he has actually forgotten to eat

I've found I'm better having my main meal in the afternoon followed by a siesta . In the evening just a snack.

Thank you I was thinking of preparing a stew or soup and putting in a microwave cup and giving it to hubby for lunch

9284 In pwp the appetite is often diminished and/or replaced by cravings for particular foods. I am in the "my husband" category and have often passed up delicious looking snacks and lunches, left for me by my thoughtful wife, and either skipped the meal or selected, from the pantry, a delicious looking can of sweet peas for my dinner.

I also prefer to eat my most substantial meal at midday and a smaller, but balanced supper. See if your husband eats better with a hot lunch that is more like what most folks would call dinner. He may do fine with just soup and or a sandwich for his last meal.
