Absence of punctuation!
New Symptom of PD: Absence of punctuation! - Cure Parkinson's
New Symptom of PD
Ozie, I don't know if you are commenting on yourself or others. Every veteran community member on this forum has noticed postings often show a flagrant lack of periods, commas, or correct spelling. But in my opinion this cannot be listed as an independent symptom of PD--much of it probably comes from these symptoms of PD:
a) typing is shot to hell,
b) ignorance (we don't know how to correct our errors. Okay, not a PD symptom:))
c) apathy or depression (we don't care),
d) pain, fatigue, or sleepiness (lack of alertness and focus), and
e) dementia (foggy brain--forget spelling or even our train of thought).
Clear communication is most pleasant, to be sure. But this forum is about fellowship, not scholarship, So long as we can suess out what a poster is trying to say--if necessary, with the help of follow-up questions--we all seem to manage just swimmingly, thank you.
I agree whole heartedly, it is the meaning that counts. It was meant as a light hearted comment. My own punctuation could be better.
That (no punctuation) is the "new" in way to text supposedly. Just saying .....
I never expected typing to present an untenable problem! Typing has become such an ordeal that even if I see a blooper, I think, "Hm, do I have the energy to fix this?" Sometimes yes sometimes no!
and You a jurnalist "hmm why is journalist underlined?' tsk tsk
Huh???
I was giving you a rough time and I did so by spelling journalist wrong. And that is why it was underlined. So you implied some times you are to lazy to fix mistakes and I was implying that I am to stupid to know that I even made a mistake. Even when the computer underlines it for me. Few, it is easier to tell jokes than to explain them.
Not to mention the absence of context...
OK I won't
but if I don't do it somebody else will.

Just like the context
I was not sure where you were going with this but I thought it was here.
Hal, tears running down my face and my ribs hurt, that was funny. Dean did it Just like he was working with Jerry Lewis. I have watched Victor Borge fall off his piano seat many times, thanks.
Thanks for the Idea.
I have noticed an absence of punctuation when I'm conversing. My sentences often drop off or i play a word search game between my head and my mouth!
I am not sure about this being a PD symptoms. I myself don't bother with punctuation especially in text messaging just purely out of laziness
Are you trying to say that I am obtuse or that I am just apathetic? Well I will tell you I don't know and a just don't care.!
Hi hali do apologize I wasn't trying to offend anyone I was just speaking about myself! I m sorry .
Boy this is getting confusing. I thought I was responding to Becky who did not get the joke. So no apology needed and I guess I unwittingly made my case. 😹
It's OK then hal.got worried then
You will never have to worry about me. I of all people know what a mess I can be so I will never jump on an individual's case. Now if you are an insurance company all deals are off.
I just read your bio. I am 52 and was diagnosed at 46. Probably because of the early onset I was able to attach the physical aspects but didn't realize my mental health was in dire need of attention. I test myself now by trying to bring some levity to some posts. There is a reason you don't see any stand up comedians with Parkinson's.
Boy, that was a mighty amusing thread to follow. Don't give up on the jokes H-9000. Listening to you explain the jokes is damned amusing also. Gave me a good laugh.
Did you get the joke or was it just me?
This thread was started to make a bit of a joke, as we often blame everything on pd. But it raised some better funnies than I imagined. What made me think of it was another post on a thread that started "I used to love to cook my husband....." (until tender?)
We have been trying a program that types what you say. It is slow and a person has to talk loudly and have very good pronunciation, you also have to say capital, comma, period, etc. to get the program to put one in. Nice idea but you can see all the drawbacks for someone with PD using it.
Thanks to everyone who has contributed so far. If we can retain a sense of humour then just maybe there is hope for us?
If I look in the mirror (I have to shave once in a while) I see a funny looking sad clown maybe or a grumpy old man who resembles my grandfather.
Smile damn you smile , I say to myself.
SMILE but I forget
