Tremor Onset

Parkinson's Disease Patients: Those with hand/arm tremors- how did it start?

Was it the little finger first, followed over time by the other fingers then the whole hand and finally spreading to the arm?

If so, how long did this process take to occur? From the twitchy beginnings to all out bouncing!?

Thanks.

Whole hand and in about a year, more noticeable bouncing.

My initial sign was twitching of my little finger, no all over bouncing - 8 years on and tremor still just one side, comes on when my meds are low.   Hardly noticeable tremor for about first 5 years.

Hikoi, Thanks!

But did the other fingers also start to kick off during those 5 years? Also, are you saying your entire hand has never really taken off?  How long into the tremor were you diagnosed?

I diagnosed myself next day , wonderful Google.  It took about 2 months to see a neuro who confirmed it.

My entire hand sure has taken off now ( I was thinking entire body) but  that is recent.  I was on meds from 6 months so that makes a difference.  It can't be hidden now - about 18 months like this, noticeable tremor but not all the time.

Interesting. I went into my doctor and told him what I had too as it became so obvious. They don't like being told. I'm 39 so they were slow to commit to the diagnosis.

Mine was little finger slight tremor when going code to calls in ambulance or rescue squad on days I worked fire.

But did it then branch out to the other fingers before eventually taking over the whole hand?

And if so, how long from little finger to whole hand/arm?

Did you feel any electric current type pulse in your fingers/hand prior to this?

Sorry for the questions.

It started in late 2011 with my whole hand, and I could feel it in my rotator cuff. However, the tremor would last maybe five minutes then disappear for 20 minutes and more. Over the next several months, the break in between got shorter and shorter. At this point, the breaks are occasional and random (though always welcome!).

It just started, from nowhere? No little finger jumps prior to that? No electric pulse feeling in the hand or fingers leading up to it?

My PD started 13 yrs ago, thought I had carpal tunnel because my right wrist was stiff & then the doctor noticed I had s drag in my leg & wasn't swinging my arm.  My tremors didn't really start until about a year ago or so & it is on my left side & in my mouth (lips) & my head shakes some.  Meds usually take care of it.  3-5 Parcopa's a day ( C/L that dissolves on my tongue) 2 Azilect & 2 Amantadine per day.

Nope. I am a journalist, and I would be on an assignment taking notes then suddenly my hand would jerk all over the page.

It was the little finger for me

But did the little finger then become several fingers and then your whole hand? And if so, over how long?

It started in the little finger moved to the hand and arm,  time period of 10 years   I was told that it was ET and nothing to worry about. Than in the next couple of years it went to the leg. The tremors are right side only  Than in the next year my tremors became much worse very quickly and I was told that in was in my head and not ET.  Three years after that  I went to a MDS and was told that is was not in my head, that it was Parkinsons   Now I am on meds for Parkinson's  they help but they don't take care of all the tremors.

It must not have had the parkinson's rhythm in the first few years, that's why they wrote it off as ET.

It's shocking how poorly educated and informed so many specialist doctors are. I had to almost fight for a diagnosis - ridiculous.

rotation of the right wrist as though I was holding a screw driver and turning a screw with it.

Mine occurred after a fall.  And it was my index and middle finger that twitched up-and-down.

I had a tremor on my right side that affected my foot, leg, arm and hand. I saw a neurologist, and he said it was not PD. He prescribed neurontin and it went away.

A couple years later -- in 2011 --another tremor emerged but it would but it would come and go -- hit maybe every half-hour and last about 10 minutes, then 20, then after while it was constant.
