I wonder why the MRI research is not being used to make early diagnosis in suspected cases. There has been a lot of research the past few years, and even 9 years ago this was written in a paper:

"Over the past two decades [since 1987], conventional MRI and advanced MRI techniques...have shown abnormalities in the substantia nigra and basal ganglia, especially in A-PD. Furthermore, in accordance with neuropathological studies suggesting that the olfactory system is an early target of the disease, recent studies using advanced MRI techniques have shown abnormalities in the olfactory system in the early disease stages of patients with PD. "
