Fava beans and Parkinsons: If anyone plans... - Cure Parkinson's
Fava beans and Parkinsons
Thanks for this racerCP. After a discussion with the Parkinson's nurse about the effectiveness of co-beneldopa vs sinemet I have decided to reduce my co-beneldopa intake to zero and then she said she will prescribe sinemet to see if that's any better for me.
However now that I have read this I'm considering trying fava beans as my source of levadopa. My problem is this though : I am currently taking azilect (rasagiline) 1mg daily and MAOIs are contra indicated with fava beans. So does anyone out there have any experience of combining azilect with fava beans ?
(extract from site : It should be noted that selegiline is a different type of MAOI (MAOI-type B), and in the amount normally used by people with PD (10 mg daily), it is not thought to pose a risk when used with dopamine. However, people using any MAOI should discuss foods containing pressor agents with their physicians and dietitians.)
