Later this week I will start taking boron and watching for improvement. I will update by Post the outcome of this test. "The compound also functions to improve a variety of cognitive skills including visual perception, concentration, short term memory, coordination, fine motor skills and logic."

what is Boron
a component of borax
Boron is essential to life. Small amounts of boron compounds play a strengthening role in the cell walls of all plants, making boron a necessary plant nutrient. Boron is involved in the metabolism of calcium in both plants and animals. It is considered an essential nutrient for humans, and lack of boron is implicated in osteoporosis in humans.

He wrote that commonly people can get rid of their pain, swelling and stiffness in about 1 to 3 months. Then they can reduce treatment from 3 to 1 boron tablet (each 3 mg) per day as a maintenance dose so that they can avoid any future arthritis. He also stated that patients with rheumatoid arthritis commonly experienced a Herxheimer reaction and that this is always a good prognostic sign. They must persevere and in another 2 or 3 weeks the pain, swelling and stiffness will be gone. -

Herxing is believed to occur when injured or dead bacteria release their endotoxins into the blood and tissues faster than the body can comfortably handle it. This provokes a sudden and exaggerated inflammatory response.
Identifying the Herxheimer reaction
Herxheimer symptoms are varied, may be unexpected, subjective or objective. Patients report that a Herxheimer reaction makes them feel as though their disease symptoms have suddenly gotten worse. They may describe reactivation of previous symptoms, exacerbation of current symptoms, or new symptoms. The onset of herxing is from 1-2 hrs to 10 days after the antibiotic/s are administered. Patients who have received other therapies prior to starting IT may have delayed or reduced Herxheimer reactions.
Good luck. Do let us know
RoyProp,
This response is not about boron but a question about medications. As you may remember from previous responses I made to your posts, I am 75 and diagnosed exactly two years ago but did not take any medications, which I think is your situation. I have right-sided tremor, as I think you do. I exercise a lot and had been doing fairly well. However, about a month ago I came down with the flu which lasted several weeks; had some family stress, and for about 3 weeks did no exercise. I noticed basically a dramatic increase in tremor where it is now obvious to others and continuous. In my regularly scheduled neuro visit all this was noted and the doctor suggested I take a PD medication. We settled on neupropatch which was prescribed. I looked up side effects and was a bit horrified because they listed constipation; dizziness; insomnia ; along with a string of other things, a full description of some PD symptoms. Being an agonista it helps to use the dopamine I have...my understanding. The doctor didn't think much of MaoB (sp) inhibitors. Two questions to you..first open-ended one: What do you think? Second question, if you were to use a med what would it be? Tremor, insomnia, some stiffness are my major symptoms, otherwise I lead a normal life and exercise daily, about 2 to 4 hours a day.
Anyone out there have suggestions, much appreciated.
When I was first dx, the neuro prescribed neupro patch. Unless, and I am waiting, something better comes along that is what I recommend. Do not let the standard warnings about side effects disturb you or prevent your choice of medication. I have not read aspirin label lately but I am certain you will find similar and dreadful warnings as with all medications and treatments. I do not have insomnia but have trouble going to sleep and staying asleep because of right hand tremor and sore joints. My condition especially right side, continues to deteriorate. (even after regular exercise - which I now have excluded from my daily routine. I think exercise is a requirement for those with PIGD. Do not ( a suggestion ) let doc, neuro, nurse or others talk you into starting Park medicine too soon. Stress, not lack of exercise causes increased tremors. When symptoms move to my left side, I guess I be Stage II .....
RoyPop, I am grateful for your detailed response, thank you. The takeaway I got from your response was that: One, if one were starting on a medication that seems to be acceptable. Two, that if I am functioning on an acceptable level that I personally find satisfactory that I am justified in postponing meds altogether. So, yes, I find myself functioning satisfactorily as I am able to do whatever exercise program I choose; able to walk to everywhere normally and to do my activities of daily living which include shopping, cooking, taking care of my home, that I am justified in postponing meds. Since my tremor and symptoms are restricted to the right side, I hope I am not yet at Stage II.
Again, thank you for taking the time to fully address my dilemma and for the speed with which to responded.
Best
Roy from what I see on line there is very little known about supplementation with boron, side effects etc. has there been any research on boron treatment in PD? I was wondering what you were hoping or looking for in particular. Do be careful. Interested to hear how you go.
If it sooths aching joints and makes my handwriting legible, I will be satisfied. If it by chance does more, I will be happy. Online, it appears safe and effective, "The compound also functions to improve a variety of cognitive skills including visual perception, concentration, short term memory, coordination, fine motor skills and logic."
I'm in my fourth day of daily 9mg boron. I will do this say for one week, then drop down to:
dose: 6 mg of boron
Arthritis: Boron is an option for arthritis and in more than 95% of cases significant improvement was noticed by bringing about effective calcium integration into the cartilage and bone. In a study of 20 patients with osteoarthritis, the 50% who received a daily supplement of 6 mg of boron all reported improvement (less pain on movement), compared to only 10% who reported likewise in the control group. Another mechanism is found in boron’s ability to inhibit prostaglandins and leukotrienes which are mediators in inflammatory conditions.
Reduces the severity of rheumatoid arthritis: Boron greatly reduces the inflammatory conditions that are typically associated with rheumatoid arthritis.

At night I use a product called Natural Calm plus Calcium also contains 290mcg Boron. C, D3, Mg, K. Would you suggest Selenium as well?

Thanks Roy.
I’ve been curious about Boron...are you taking basic “powder from the box” or a clinical grade? You are brave!

Has your trial ended, 9 mg/d?
