Has anyone experienced dry mouth as slimy mouth?

If so, what do you do for it?

Yes, my dry mouth is also a slimy mouth. I believe this is caused by a lack of saliva. For my dry mouth I have been given a spray, which did not help at all. I am now on pastilles and a mouthwash. Unfortunately, I get a lot of ulcers in my mouth. These are extremely painful. The slimy mouth is not a bit nice as it covers my teeth. In short, I do not have an answer to this problem, apart from the fact it is a side effect of at least one of my tablets. Sorry, I cannot be of more help.

Hi Sue,

Good to see another stager posting again. Can you tell us what the pastilles are, where we can buy them & what benefits they bring? Ditto the mouthwash - will any brand do?

This is a really useful question as these mouth conditions are not uncommon in PD. Like Court I have suffered for years & although I have followed advice from this site (& others) I have not found a satisfactory solution (pardon the pun).

It sounds fairly minor compared with some symptoms but the effects can be devastating. In the last year I have had 3 teeth extracted & I can feel with my tongue that several others are on their way out. Apart from the cost of replacing some teeth with crowns & bridges so that food can be chewed & digested, there is the pain & misery of mouth ulcers etc.

The worst part I am afraid is that like Court I have not been able to find a remedy despite asking dentists, pharmacists & doctors. An issue of pure vanity: my cheeks are sinking in making me look older - boohoo.

If the trouble is due to air restriction threw the nose you will automatic open your mouth to get enough air.

This works for me (norwegian)

Hei Snorre;

I am also Norwegian, and I just ordered this product.

I am willing to try anything.

Do you wear it all the time?

Hugs and kindness, Eva Gabrielle

Hei Eva

Jan

Fantastic Jan!!

I am not sure how to order it off the Norwegian site. Maybe I need to call them.

Peace :)

Hi. I was pleased to see your name, as it seems ages since our paths crossed.

Of course, I will give you the names of the medication I have tried, I hope one of them suits you I was given Colgate Duraphet by my Dentist as you know lack of saliva causes lack of teeth. This appears to have little or no effect on saliva. Before I consulted my GP I tried a liquid called Anbesol recommend by my pharmacist. This did not affect my lack of saliva, but did help with the pain. I still use this. One GP prescribed a synthetic saliva spray which did not appear to help. I then tried Bonjela, which also kept the pain at bay for a time. My present GP gave me a mouthwash called Chlorhexidine Gluconate plus Salivix pastilles which are supposed to be a salivary stimulant. I have only just started the last two items, so I can't really comment on them except to say I am not expecting miracles. I have been told that this dry mouth is a side effect of one of my medz. And I am sure this is true. Sorry this is such a long answer, but you did ask!!!!

Thanks for the information, it is most helpful. I too have been told that this is a side effect of meds so I suppose we just have to grin & bear it.....I am sure my unintentional puns are getting worse with age or maybe PD.

Yes! I use a oral thrush cream which has helped! I have top dentures so put it down to that, worse at night, also in summer when we have high temps, tongue becomes coated too.

I'm from the states, but I use the Act brand Dry Mouth toothpaste and mouthwash. While it doesn't work all the time, that and constantly drinking water helps. I get so dry despite the water that I can't speak. I hate that. While it seems more trendy to walk around with a bottle of water, there are times when it doesn't look as professional as I'd like. But neither does opening my mouth and nothing coming out! So I guess we need to do what we have to cope. BTW, I've had this problem for over 30 years, and I'm 52.

I find that rinsing the mouth with salt water helps ulcers, or just dabbing a wet fingertip in the salt and putting it on the ulcer

I was having chronic mouth ulcers and my dentist said it was due to dry mouth.

Recommended Biotene toothpaste & mouthwash. They are pricey but have helped. Chew sugarless gum & eat only sugarless mints/candy as sugar breeds bacteria which causes ulcers, too
