Has anyone had experiences, good or bad, with the use of Gabapentin for pain? Mine seems to have increased.

Hi Ronn

My Consultant put me on Gaberpentin but I had to come off it because of the side effects. It really messed with my head. I kept blacking out, only for a short while, but was talking rubbish when I returned. I thought I was going mad, but I believe a lot of people had a similar reaction. A posted a query about it and a number of people had the same reaction. whilst others suffered different reactions. It did help with the pain, but decided to come off it anyway.

Hi I tried gabapentin for pain ( sciatica and nerve pain from an operation ) and I found that it didn't work fo me, I was on 300mg three times a day, I gave it about 10 weeks to work. I went back to see my GP last week and he has changed my medication to pregabalin which seems to be starting to work after about 10 days on it. I am on 50 mg twice a day at the moment but I will be going up to 100 mg twice a day in the next couple of weeks.

Gabapentin was a dud for me. It made matters worse! Now I am taking zonisamide and having better luck.

i've been taking gabapentin for years for back pain. stynosis . sometimes it seems to work. but i do know that my doc said that some people take many more mg's then that. like 1900. i've had at least 8 cortisone shots in the lower spine. none did any good . for some people they work, and some they don't help at all. . if you walk correctly , the pain disappears. i really don't know if i could recommend gabapentine or not , because for me , it's just another pill i'm swallowing. physical therapy on walking right seemed to help the most. and that's all i can reccomend.

Hi,

I'v been taking Gabapentin for three months now and didn't think that it made any difference. I told my GP and she reduced the dose gradually. WELL, I was in even more pain. So the moral of the story is YES, It was helping me all along!!! x
