Hi all...just wondering if anyone is suffering with constipation, even after tweaking diet,to include increased fibre, roughage and water?

I have tried all of the over the counter preparations and I'm fearful of an obstruction down the road...

Any words of wisdom??!

Hi Annie have you tried magnesium chelate powder or tablets start off with say two capsules am and two at night increase dosage until you reach what they call bowel tolerance then cut back one dose at a time the product is harmless and actually very good for muscles and heaps of other things check ou the web site on Marvellous Magnesium I have had great success with this hope you do too Keep positive Sunnysky

Sunnysky forgot to ask about dosage and can I pick it up at health food stores or even a Wallmart?

Sorry Annie dosage is according to your bowel tolerance every one is different I take up to 6000 mg look for the elemental magnesium you may need less or more idea is to take magnesium in divided doses Am&PM and increase every day until you reach the point of loose (sorry to get personal)stools then cut back one dose at a time it's a naturel product and won't harm you excess is eliminated from bowel I'm from Australia so am not able to say where u can buy it but you would have Health Food outlets I'm sure it's not overly expensive and look for the Chelated a magnesium. It's the most bio available it will help you .keep positive Sunnysky

Since I am also diabetic, I have to restrict my diet to foods with less sugar or with or made with artificial sweeteners. I have found that artificial sweeteners, like those commonly found in diet drinks, helps to prevent constipation at least for me.

I have had this problem too and now use senna tea. also use glycerine suppositories when needed as the muscles do not work any more ask your pharmacist- nb the suppositories are put up into your rectum. all the best Sylvia

The best information from the multiple support groups that I attend is: Myralax or a generic. It has no flavor and works gently, usually within 12-24 hrs. The other thing I use is Virgin Coconut Oil. 1-2 tea spoons in my coffee every day. It keeps the intestine lubricated which helps in elimination. Available @ Trader Joe's markets.

Note: There is evidence that Coconut Oil can help with cognitive issues.

I take 4 capsules (133mg each) of MG plus protein, spread over the day and evening. It's available in the US from Miller Pharmacal Group or from mgplusprotein.com . My spouse, who has MS also takes this supplement (and takes up to 7 capsules per day). I also put a tablespoon of coconut oil in my morning oatmeal and in my second coffee. We both have successfully avoided laxatives. The MG product also eases migrane headaches. Magnesium is a vasodilator.

I cannot find the ingredients in MG plus protein. Can you tell me what's in it. soy protein sets off my ibs-c pain

Hi. There is soy protein in this product. There are many magnesium supplements w/o soy. The most important ingredient is the amount of magnesium. This product contains 133mg of Magnesium (Oxide and Amino Acid Chelate) per pill.

I tried before and saw no change in any symptom whatever and found it to be a pain in the *** to use. But I plan to buy again because it's one of the few fats that are safe, apparently. If I heeded every scare article put out there, I'd never eat anything :D

I know what you mean. I heat the CO jar (on low) for 30 seconds. It softens enough to be more manageable. Also mixing it with foods that taste good with butter has helped "dilute" the CO.

Try the squatty Potty technique. Sit on the loo but with your feet on a low step (like the ones toddlers use to reach the taps and soak the bathroom). This puts your bowel in a more natural position for the business in hand. It has helped me quite a lot. Many people have seat raisers on their loo because of difficulty standing from the usual height. Even without a high seat causing the difficulties, that I have found my squatty potty helpful.

PS sit down before bring the step closer. Don't stand on the step and sit down from a great height.
