LSVT BIG Has any Parkinson's patient taken part in a exercise programme know as LSVT BIG? Originated in U.S.A. Feedback or comment please.

Check out PWR!GYM. It is a great program.
Have PD....symptoms had reached stage four (was in bad shape)......got involved in LSVT BIG Physical Therapy.....continue with exercises at home backed up with an occasional review session of Physical Therapy. Made a world of difference in my mobilitt8y...in my life. You can imagine how encouraging it is to have some personal control of symptoms. I had been diagnosed for seven years.....if one starts LSVT BIG earlier, can substantially delay onset of symptoms. Hope all PD patients get this opportunity.
not heard of this . but do find when legs are bad ,i sit on my exercise bike and gently peddle. I have been looking into Qigong, have ordered dvd but have been following on you tube. Any one else tried it?
Google Forced Exercise Parkinson's......look at articles involving Dr Alberts at Cleveland Clinic. Also Kindle Books by Sheldon....can access by computer application........look at
High-Intensity Interval Training....applies to exercise bike......also DVDs available for Tai Chi which I have found helpful with balance.
Hi Jimsey. I have been doing what LSVT BIG teaches us, since long before LSVT BIG came on the scene. It works because it teaches us to take conscious control of our movements instead of leaving the control to our subconscious brain, which does not work properly anymore. I stopped taking Pd medication ten years ago and now live a normal life, as if I did not have Pd, but it is still there. My Pd symptoms started in 1963, that is over 50 years ago. I have been examined by specialists and there is no doubt that I do still have Pd, but it no longer has me.
Good luck.
John
Hi John Pepper, thank you for your most encouraging response. It has given me the impetus to start taking conscious control of my own movements and try to stop relying on Sinement etc.to keep me on the move and cope with the side effects.I admire your attitude and salute your success,
Sincerely,
Jimsey.
Thanks jimsey. I hope you don't expect immediate results, as it took 10 years before I realized that I had improved so much that I didn't need the medication anymore. My family, who saw me every day could not notice the gradual change either. People who only saw me many years after I was diagnosed noticed it immediately. They thought I had been telling lies. Their, "You're looking so well!" sounded more like an accusation than a compliment. Nobody is expected to improve, if they have Pd. I did not expect to improve! I have faced a lot of criticism from the medical profession, since I wrote my book in 2003. I wonder who they thought diagnosed the Pd in the first place? I wonder who they thought prescribed the medication for 10 years? I wonder who they thought examined me every year and continued to prescribe the same medication? I wonder who they thought felt that I had to go onto sinemet after nine years, because he thought my condition had deteriorated? Do the medical profession not want anyone to get better? I would be standing in line to find out what I did, if I were a doctor, wouldn't everybody?
Kind regards
John
oh yes it a great program!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I did LSVT BIG both program and speech. Was Great Do Not hesitate to try it, using it and exercises they give for at home cannot be beat in my opinion and balance exercises are really great. You can also load LSVT big global .com or Lsvt.com on
Computer and see actual, people and their video improvement. Please try it at least.
Nothing to loose but you time and at the least a new insight on different exercises.

Yes I have taken the program and it works..need to schedule into each am and eve.
yes. I went to a workshop on LSVT about two years ago. We did a little on the voice (amazing how loud Parkys could shout when they tried) but mostly on the physical side . They took us through a few physical exercises. I was impressed at the unusual nature of the movements (they weren't jusyt modifying the old exercise routines) and I was interested in pursuing it further but there was a probllem with finding a coach locally (this was in London UK) so I left it there. Later I looked it up on the internet and picked out 4/5 routines which I still do. I believe in it. I went back to my hospital to do a bit more physio last year and was pleased to find the trainer there had incorporated a few LSVT routines into my training. Give it a go.
Yes. Have had Lvst Loud but did not realize thei importance of keeping it up& am now hoping to have a refresher in it

Have taken both, and both were great. Time for a revisit to LSVT. I've become lazy and worse.
