Hi maryalice,

This patch got me through a very difficult time when I was waiting for a gall bladder op and kept being sick. Sharon

Thanks.

I recently stopped using them. At the beginning they were fine and I felt much better, but after 12 months I noticed problems, skin eruptions, and this summer while in company I kept suddenly dropping off to sleep quite unknowingly. I tried a few weeks without them and I was OK.

I decided to re use them again to see if it was these causing the problem, after two days I felt ill

I stopped them right away. I confess to not feeling any worse without them.

It's comes in two to sixteen mg and often needs higher dosages to be affective. It is excellent for dystonia pain and wearing off and for overnight stiffness

I second all that owsod. at the begining i thought the patch was the icing on the cake along with my requip and stalevo but i too had problems with dropping of to sleep and lately seeing shadows at the corners of my vision. also severe tiredness. my neurologist took me of them and i do not feel any worse, the side effects have so far dissapeared and i think i have more energy and focus. On saying that i feel they did help initially,so go for it but just remember to tell your neurologist about anything untoward no matter how trivial it may seem as these things can unknowingly to you be linked to side effects. Thats if you can get the patches to stay on.....ha!

Have been on 10 mg patches for the past two years.yes there are some side effects and minor skin reactions but the positive benefits I have received from this drug ,

Far outweigh any minor problems. One should always read the warnings provided, and be aware of how it might effect them.there are no easy options with any Parkinson's

Medication .

My partner had to stop using it as he couldn't keep the patches on they came off in bed and he would find them stuck to the inside of his clothing. , and he also had a allergic rash from them. I hope they will suit you better. Good luck.

Neupro patch is very good. I have been on for 2 years. Couple of tips.

1. Go to Neupro.com and get discount card.

2, When removing patch rub area with hand creme to remove excess adhesive.

3. Avoid direct sunlight on patch or it will burn.

Are you on any other medications? Thanks.

I was on Neupro for 12m and found it very effective until my skin decided it didn't like the adhesive. It is a dopamine agonist so if you haven't taken a dopamine agonist before, its worth reading up on some of the issues surrounding this type of parkinson's medication.

My husband has been using "the Patch" for 6 to 8 months and has been quite pleased with the results. Holding a warm hand on the patch for a few seconds helps it adhere. He gets a red rash on the site ONLY when it is left on too long. He started with a sample of 2 mg, but had to up the dose to 4 mg within a month of starting. Try to leave the old patch on before placing the new one to help remember opposite side and upper or lower torso placement.

It did not work for me, I take Azilect and the combination sent my blood pressure way up. I have good results with Azilect so opted not to use the patch.

my husband's insurance provider wouldn't pay for it. But he has sensitive skin so maybe it wouldn't have worked out. Though it would be good to have the steady, consistent dosage. His neurologist was all for it.

So...it's back to the pills.

Is he on Mirapex?

quirkyme in reply to maryalice

no. He's on provigil for narcolepsy. Had a hard time getting it covered.

Provigil has greatly improved his ability to stay awake and focused. He was on the pill Nuvigil (neurologists samples) but couldn't get that covered either.

What side effects did you have owdsod . My husband has been on them for about 3/4 years now and he is not doing good at all . He started at first with just Sinemet going up to Sinemet plus . Because I became confused about the fact about an hour after taking one he would switch off and drool . I suggested that they reduce the Sinemet to 110 which he is on now . I have great difficulty in getting him to move out of a chair to transfer him . He has a hoist to get in and out of bed now .

When you came off the patch did you have any trouble . In my opinion anything is worth trying as long as it doesn't cause any other problem . Like I said he has been using then for quite a while now . I sometimes think he would be better without anything ..

I'm sorry, but I don't understand your answer.

it's hard to know what med, if any, is working. And whether a symptom you are seeing is the PD or a side effect. As I said above, the provigil works for my husband and has done for 18 months. He's not on Sinemet.

When I first started with Sinemet 25/100 it wasn't working that well so my doctor added the Neupro patch. It finally got changed to Ropinirole (a pill). I started out with 2mg and I am now taking 3 mg, 3 x day. I had so much trouble with itching where the patch was that I would turn black and blue from itching.

HI

I was on them twice! The first time I was put on them by the first neurologist I saw as the only medication (I went up to 14 mg). The second neuro took me off NEUPRO and put me on SINEMET. The third consultant is a specialist in movement disorders and he allowed me to restart the patches. I recently came off them-gradually. To no great disaster. So I would say "Go for it".

I tolerated it well. J came off it because i reckoned it wasn't doing any good. I suffer from P.S.P. by the way.
