doe anbody feel off balance all of the ti... - Cure Parkinson's
doe anbody feel off balance all of the time and have to use a zimmer frame to get around on because their legs are so weak.
Yes, but I don't use a frame but my legs are getting very weak.
I feel just the same. I have a u-step walker. I don't have a tremor. I was going for DBS but was told I'm too old but I'm going to ask for another opinion. Do you have a tremor?
Yes I started using a U step walker but now a wheelchair
I apologize if this is too personal a question, but I was wondering how you handled moving to a wheel chair emotionally. This looks like the next step for my mom and I'd like to know the best way to help her emotionally.
hope you don't mind me asking but how long have you had pd because ive been suffering balance promblems and the parkinsons doctor says it isntvthe parkinsons but something else (diagnosed 8/7/2012
about 6years. I would have thought it was the -parkinsons
Have you been having physical therapy? My PT balance exercises are helpful along with the strengthening exercises.
My Legs are also very weak. I use a stick. I have been told it is the Parkinsons. Diagnosed Dec 2010.
Hi I did find it very difficult to accept the wheelchair ,but as it was a choice of keeping my independence living alone with my dogs . I have had several falls ,and always backwards ,but my last fall caused me to break my pelvis and go to hospital, My future looked very bleak I imagined having to sell my home, and rehome my dogs,,,when I got home from hospital I was issued a manual wheelchair, and after a few weeks I decided to buy a power chair ,Now I able to stay in my own home, and I haven't had a fall for almost a year.. I am free to go to the shops and be independent again.
I have found that balance is a 2-pronged problem. First of all, balance is a Pd problem and second, lack of muscle tone is the other problem. I am not a doctor but have had Pd for a very long time. I found that if I am not standing erect and am leaning a bit to the left or right, or even leaning forwards, then it is easy to fall, because by the time I am aware of falling, it is too late to correct it. When I pay attention to my posture and stand up straight, I don't have too much of a problem. When I have been unable to exercise, because of other health problems, I find that my muscles are not able to stop the falling in time. I have to keep fit by walking for one hour, three times a week. In that way, I avoid falls and stay out of trouble.
