After a heart attack I was enrolled in a cardio rehab program. That's when my cold was discovered.

Shortness of breath

Even though I have had 3-6 bouts of bronchitis a year, COPD was not diagnosed until I was in ICU following quad bypass surgery in November 2014.

I had severe asthma as a child, at least that is what they thought it was, later in life I found out that I was born with a hole in my heart. At the time the patch was but on 50% of my blood was flowing the wrong way, I believe that had sometime to do with all of this. I did great for one year after the patch and then my breathing took a major turn for the worst and that is when I saw pulmonary and had the test done which showed COPD.

I have always had asthma and a rescue inhaler. My usual brand of ventolin wasn't covered by insurance. Went to the doctor for a prior authorization and he said there must be something else wrong. I had a sleep study test done and found my oxegyn dips low at night. So I take oxegyn at night. Also a couple months ago I got bronchitis and it never fully went away.

Had gotten scared in August 2013 with REALLY bad cough and short winded. I quit smoking after 40 years on August 31, 2013. In October I went to doctor cause I was running a fever and coughing so hard I would throw up! She immediately ordered x ray and I had pneumonia. When pneumonia cleared I was still coughing and short of breath was worse so she orders a LFT (lung function test) and diagnosed me with Stage 3 COPD. Inhalers an pulmonary rehab helped some but in December 2013 my cardio doctor ordered a routine annual chest x-ray and it turned out I had lung cancer! Had surgery to remove top lobe of right lung and lymph nodes. God was good - cancer had not spread to lymph nodes so no Chemo/radiation. Just checked by oncologist every 3 months. COPD has changed my life drastically! Can no longer play tennis, dance, etc. BUT I am alive and kicking and thank God for each day I am alive!!
