The only sensible thing to do is go to see your GP, there are many reasons for bleeding and most won’t be cancer, even if it was cancer if caught early it’s treatable and curable so best not delay !

Sweetmk, please go see your doctor and get some answers. It's ok and you are definitely not alone when going through something like this. Focus on getting the answers from the doctor. You'll get further tests as ordered and then have some kind of direction to follow. You'll feel much better once you get some answers. You can do this.❤️💪🤟👍

Hi ... do you have any other symptoms besides what you described originally?

A bit drastic when it may be something simple like haemorrhoids or a fissure !

My Mum did have colon cancer, she had one op and lived a further 40 odd years to the ripe old age of 94.

I’ve had bleeding on and off for 50 years because I’ve got an IBD, it’s treatable so no big deal really.

Far better to see your GP and find out one way or the other.

Hi Sweetmk,

Thank you for posting in Colon Cancer Connected. I hate to hear you have this going on. What you need to do is gain control and get some answers. Has this symptom of blood in the stool still occurring? You should never be afraid to go to the doctor to get answers. It's the answers that can set you mind at ease as you will have good information to go on.

And bantam12 is right. There are so many things that could be causing this that is not cancer. You need good information. Catching things early is the key to the highest success rate for anything going on. Blood in the stool is a sign that needs to be checked out. You are definitely still early side of it. That's good.

We wish you all the best in finding out what's going on. Please ... Please go see your doctor and get the ball rolling to obtain answers so you can use. It's OK to get this checked out. It's the right thing to do. Please go see your doctor and get it sorted out.

Sounds to me like a fissure. That happened to me when I was 21. Scared the crap out of me (no pun intended) But now I'm 73 and almost 5 years since I've had colon cancer and no blood at all with that in my case. Best see a doctor to put yourself at ease. A fissure could certainly be caused by a big stool. In my case, with the cancer, my stools got pencil thin for a couple of months and I was going 5 times all morning instead of one which tipped me off that there must be a blockage and that of course was the tumour

It is good to be investigated. However rectal bleeding is very casual. Yes, it warrants a GP visit and it might be scary happening first time, but it is usually nothing to be concerned about. Age is on your side. Moreover, I've been bleeding for past 20 years and all my colonoscopies/sigmoidoscopies came out clear. Severity of symptoms does not correspond with severity of diagnosis. In your age it will be a little minority having serious issues. You read here horrifying stories but honestly these are just unlucky few. Vast majority of people even with horrible symptoms have just some casual issues. I am one of them. ;) Do not stress, book an appointment with a GP.

Hi Sweetmk, if you saw a bit of blood after passing a large poop then it sounds like it may be a fissure. This happened to me a few years ago. It was very painful and took months to heal. Every time I went for a poo it was excruciating pain. I went to the GP and they can see a fissure straight away, it's fine, not embarrassing as they look at people's bums all the time! I had to have stool softeners so it was easier to pass and didn't hurt. I have also had haemorrhoids.

You need to go to GP.

Due to having these 2 conditions when seeing a few flecks of blood in my stool about 18months ago I just assumed it was them. I ignored for 8 months but the bleeding got worse and didn't go away. When I went to GP they also assumed it was the haemorrhoids. I didnt go back for 6 months and by then there was a lot of blood and I was going to toilet 5-7 times a day with loose stools and blood. I was also anemic. A rectal tumour was found. But it looks like its been caught early. It is very treatable when caught early.

Anyway I think from what you have described it sounds like a fissure. But you need to go to GP. I'm so glad my tumour was found and I didnt leave it any longer, I am very grateful for that.

Good luck. You'll be fine xxx

I agree you have to go to the GP the GP will want to help you. If you are scared you may consider going private if that is not sure.
