Last test results were total C 4.5.hdl1.3.ldl 0.7 triglyceride 1.2.I assumed the last three readings would add up to the total of 4.5. ??

This is horribly complicated. LDL is calculated using an equation called the Friedewald calculation not measured directly.

There is a fact sheet on the HEART UK website about it.

Most of the sites I went to are American and they use a totally different measurement for lipids. I think their TC is calculated by adding LDL and HDL and then triglcerides divided by 5!

I read somewhere that there are other lipids or similar present that are not counted, so totals will never fully "add up".

Where do these numbers come from? How accurate are these numbers? Health and maths, do they go well?

Hi bala, thats why i am looking for info,the readings come Hospital phlebotomy dept,BUT i have had other tests from a research study dept and there as different as chalk and cheese.

why would anyone want to add up the readings ? just take the medicine and go for your 6 monthly check ups
