Is anyone here in the UK getting Colestid granules (not orange powder) on prescription at the minute? My local pharmacy hasn't been able to get any for a few months and I'm wondering if it's a general supply problem. I am sick of the orange.

No replies so I called Pfizer. They say they expect it back in June. There doesn't appear to be any unsweetened alternative medication.

Well, this is new to me. Do you have any side effect? How do you use this medication?

It's a pretty old treatment as I was on it back in the 80s. I think it may date back to the 60s but maybe not initially for cholesterol.

No side effects for me personally but some people suffer various stomach problems.

I use it by taking it in water twice a daily. It suspends rather than dissolves and is about as much fun as you'd expect drinking a glass of grit to be.

As far as I understand it, it works by causing the body to remove more cholesterol from the bloodstream to replace sequestered bile acids, which is complementary to other approaches like absorption inhibition (ezetimibe), production inhibition (statins) or LDL-receptor degradation inhibition (PCSK9 inhibitors).
