Any fish you like but oily ones are better.

Avocado and almonds.

Loads of fruit and veg (apples).

Oats.

Hope this can help you !

See a lipid clinician and dietician asap.12.5 is very high!

More important than just diet is cholesterol-lowering medication for a level as high as this. You need to see a consultant in a specialised clinic for full screening. If this has not already been arranged by your GP, you should insist on it.

Oily fish steamed if possible, garlic, most fresh fruit but definitely all the berries, most important cherries as they are good for everything. No fried food or fatty food, cut down on red meat. i was a fruit and veg eater in any case but after prolonged visit in hospital when I'd eaten anything but hospital food I ate only the above and mine is now 2 1/2 - pretty good.

Hello James, Oats in all its forms, both as a cereal and as a drink. I have been using oat milk since I went dairy free two years ago and it has had a significant impact on my figures. My LDL has reduced and my HDL has increased although my overall figure hasn't changed much at all. My diet is dairy free so I have replaced all dairy with alternatives. Whether that has had any significant impact or not I don't know. Cheese, butter and fat milk is high in saturated fat but it is a natural fat and not the processed fats and oils we seem to get on a regular basis in supermarkets and restaurants. Just make sure that your diet is full of natural, fresh, and, if possible, organic food. Eat a balanced diet with nothing omitted (who needs to be miserable) but all in moderation, have a drink occasionally and exercise daily. Your figures are high and after reading several blogs on this site I am wondering if you have a family history of FH. There are many on this site who have FH and can give you loads of advice and suggestions to keep healthy.

All the very best to you

Thanks to everyone for their advice. Still not sure about oily fish as the British heart foundation says it is good for the heart but not high cholesterol?

you can also go to your local health food shop and get some lecithin, it is very good for lowering cholesterol levels.

Oily fish (omega 3) is good for heart and cholesterol levels. Food with cholesterol in, like eggs, hardly affects your levels. Processed carbohydrates, like white flour and sugar, are the ones that do the damage.

This is the NICE information on omega 3/oily fish. Looks like oily fish doesn't really do a lot, so if you like it why not eat some. arms.evidence.nhs.uk/resour...

Just keep of the fat and dairy also processed meats and most other foods are good in the correct portion size.It may sound simplistic but it works for me. !!!

Hi, try porridge with cinnamon, flaxseeds and rice milk for breakfast...salads, soups, lentils, nuts and cottage cheese. Don't eat dairy processed or takeaways...give it all up!! Walk for 30minutes a day 5 days a week or just keep active, they will come down with time and patience, good luck!
