Hello,

Take a look at the risk checker on the Internet, you need lot more information than 8.9!

Life style change is the best option, if this does not work then medication.

good luck.

High cholesterol and smoking are major risk factors of heart disease. I'm afraid it is time to give up smoking and start your statins immediately. Nothing else will reduce your cholesterol level by 40%.

Give up the ciggies!

You will feel much better and your body will thank you for it. I know, I smoked for years and it took us to realize we were smoking a mortgage monthly to pull me up. Now, when I have to go for health checks, I am so glad to say I'm a non smoker and have been for 23 years. They always ask so it must have a bearing on health. Statins do the trick, if you have no side effects to them.

I have got to say that I am GLAD I quit 3 + years ago, but I have to say that when I smoked my cholesterol was never more than 5 and usually 4.3 now its 7 how do you answer that on, and no I dont eat more fat or sugar in fact I eat less now?

Try and get it down with diet and exercise first, is this what your Dr has suggested.

Also do you have a breakdown of the numbers? age etc

Hi AlexandriaT, is there something else going on with your health? Have you been under stress recently or had a physical trauma? All these can affect your C levels.

Rule of thumb: If yr cholesterol is high assume that you need to control intake of animal fats: (Eggs, meat, ALL dairy products including, cheese, butter, paneer etc) and if your triglycerides are high then control your plant fats intake (Nuts, seeds, cooking oil etc)

You know the answer really don't you!!!!!!! If you give up the dreaded weed your body will stop producing the high concentrations of cholesterol which has been going up and up trying to fight the poisons from your smoking!!!! Once your body starts to get free of the toxins the cholesterol levels will start to drop and your body will begin to heal itself. To help it, start eating better and replace all the minerals and vitamins your body is now starved of because of your smoking. A full regime of vitamin and mineral supplements, fish oils and calcium with vit D for good absorbtion and you should feel heaps better within 3 months. Then, go back to your GP and have another "starving" blood test and see how your levels are. If there are still problems then you can discuss options with your GP.
