Thank you.

Hi Bala,

I think this was one of the outcomes of the JUPITER drugs trial where they were testing rosuvastatin in people with normal LDL but raised homocystine levels.

The increased number was "small but significant" (Wickipedia, but there are lots of other references ). I think the effect was greatest in post menopausal women. The official medical line is that the benefits of statins still outweigh the risks in high risk groups.

I am post menopausal with a big family history of type 2 and BG at the high end of normal, rosuvastatin tipped me into the diabetic range (anecdotal evidence only).

Hello,

Thank you. Very interesting type 2 and blood glucose!

When I had the answer phone message it said the BG is high come to the GP surgery to see the nurse! The nurse confirmed that I am diabetic. Life style change.

Now BG is not done but HbA1c testing shows that I am normal, have not taken any medication for diabetic. Am on cholesterol medication.

Could you please explain the numbers on BG and Hba1c, I am sure my fasting BG is still high. GP do not talk about BG, only HbA1C

Next blood test is at the end of next month.

Hi Bala, Am I right thnking that statins given to lower your cholesterol have ended up giving you type 2 diabetes? Were other factors involved or did it come out of the blue, how did the doctor explain it? Makes me so suspicious of what they poison you with in the nameof 'medication'.

You may find this useful. I think HbA1C gives a better indication of glucose levels over a period of time as they are measuring the amount of glucose that "sticks" to your red blood cells and they live for 8-12 weeks.
