How do you get someone to sit down that is struggling to understand what you want them to do, I want my friend to walk from a room and sit in his chair, but I'm really struggling to get him to go backwards, to rest his legs in the back of the chair so he can sit down safely, he keeps trying to sit down and it's not safe, please help.

Hello Mhbir, Welcome to this supportive community. It would help if you could give us a little more detail about your friend/relatives medical condition, needs and situation. Is the GP/Practice nurse aware and involved in their care? It sounds like they may need an assessment by an Occupational Therapist (OT) and physiotherapist (PT) review of their mobility and functional needs within the home and outside. This can be organised through the GP and also local NHS movement disorder clinic e.g for Parkinson's patients. They can they give advice, training on moving safely and provide equipment on loan e.g. zimmer frame, wall hand brackets to get up and down from the loo, raised loo seats, shower seats etc. Also, if this person has Alzheimer's or dementia and cannot understand the instructions, specialist support may be required too. There is help out there. The GP would be the first port of call. Hopefully you will other users here who can give support too. Best Wishes.
