Hello,

(I will use an English translator)

Are there people who have tinnitus caused by disorders of the temporo-mandibular joint (TMJ)? There are studies that show that after treatment of (TMJ), good results are achieved in reducing tinnitus.

Are there any people here with TMJ who have had treatment and had results in reducing their tinnitus.I'm sure this is the cause of my tinnitus because when I move my jaw and especially when I tense my chewing muscles the noise changes and increases.

I am a 40 year old man. and I'm very worried, before the noise was less and didn't bother me, but now I can't ignore it.

Can you share any more information on the studies? I have TMJ and tinnitus so would be interested to know more.

Hi, I have TMJ and tinnitus. The TMJ was first, had it for years, my ortho dentist advised using a night mouth guard, I didn't really follow up until 2020 when I had a conceivable TMJ related injury biting down on a carrot! It took months to heal and soft food diet until I could chew reasonably well, but delicately. I started using the mouth guard and it has helped with the alignment and lessened the headaches I used to get upon waking. So I would recommend you speak to your dentist or if you can afford to, go and see an ortho dentist. The tinnitus came after ear infection last year. Look into vata balancing diet and wear a night splint. I think it will help the TMJ but not sure about affecting the tinnitus too much. Hope that helps.

Statistics show that many people after TMJ treatment have an improvement in their tinnitus. A good test of a possible TMJ connection to tinnitus is whether the tinnitus changes and increases when we move the jaw and tense the muscles of mastication.

I have TMJ and use the mouth appliances. One for night and one for day. I have to only have a soft diet. It takes a long time to get corrected. Make sure to see a dentist that knows how to treat it.
