On wednesday I woke up feeling extremely dizzy, the room felt as though it was spinning. I thought I could just be tired and tried to rest over the next few days. The diziness and vertigo is still extremely apparent, so I went to my GP yesterday who diagnosed me with labyrinthitis as I also have a ringing sound/tinnitus in my right ear.
I'm honestly so scared that this is going to last for a long time, I could deal with the tinnitus if the vertigo/diziness went away. It's been 4 days now and I feel absolutely terrible. I'm a single mum to a 2 year old, I can barely get through the day without crying as I feel so dizzy and like I am going to pass out all the time.
I just wanted to know how long labyrinthitis usually lasts and what I can do to help it? The GP didn't give me any medication for it as he said it's not needed for this condition. He also said it could take up to 4 weeks to recover. I'm not sure how I'm going to cope childcare wise if I can barely move with the vertigo as it is.
Thank you in advance for taking the time to listen to me.

Hmmm beautifulinside, I can’t agree with your doctor about not prescribing anything. But don’t despair, go to your pharmacist and ask for recommendations what they would give you (travel sickness pills) and take these.Labyrinthitis WILL go away of its own accord. It took about ten days for mine to do.
I really sympathise with you, it’s horrible. You will need help from family/ friends/ whatever, and remember don’t drive
Hello to you, Go back to your doctor and explain that you need some medication for the dizziness . There is medication for dizziness even if you take it temporarily , it could be dangerous for you and your child if your not helped. If I get dizzy turns which I do from time to time I have in my drawer a tablet called Prochlorperazine. Another one is Stemetil , which might just be a trade name for Prochlorperazine. He must have thought you could manage without it .
My wife was also diagnosed with this condition some years ago, she was prescribed Cyclazine to take as and when she feels an attack coming on. I understand you can buy this in UK from a Pharmacy or I am astonished your doctor has not prescribed this. The other medication is Betahistine. Go back to your doctor and insist or try another one or simply go to your Pharmacy, If it persisted see an ENT consultant make sure it's not Menierres as you will need treatment for this condition.
I had labythinritus some years ago and it can be debilitating but the good news it WILL go, mine took a couple of weeks.
Unfortunately mine had me vomiting, and dr prescribed stemetol, again unfortunately for me I stopped and came off too quickly and had withdrawal symtoms, it's a suppressor of the central nervous system, a tranquilizer, and an anti depressant, so just be mindful of it but it's a long shot if you get side effects.
I know it's easier said than done but try to stay calm, stay in the NOW, please know it will leave you, revisit your dr and ask for active help, speak to friends and family and share your situation.
Hi .yes defo go back hun ,I am prescribed stemetil for my funny days I have ,I also have tinitus in my left ear had it for over a year now ...just ask for stemetil they are really good .x
Thank you everybody for your comments, they are all so educational and helpful!
I'm going to go back to my GP next week for some medication to help with this.
I've also moved back into my mums house so I can get some help with my daughter, there just wasn't a way I was going to be able to look after her alone whilst dealing with this.
I hope my vertigo/diziness only lasts a week or so, but I'm trying to keep positive and not panic over the situation
Thanks for sharing. I have a similar condition but I don't know what it is. I have the dizzy, sometimes sick in my stomach feeling as well. But mine is more like I feel it part of the day for a few days then I go a few days and I am ok. I thought it was Brain fig from being a lonh haul covid victim?I am not sure what it is but it really affects my overall health and happiness about 50% of the time.
