Terrible pain after Micro suction!!!

Dear all

I have had blocked wax in both ears for weeks, worse in one that the other was almost totally deaf due to wax , then developed Tinnitus in that blocked ear which felt weird as no sound could actually get in!? Inner ear infection?

Used olive oil, nothing then after 2 weeks doctors gave me Sodium bicarbonate drops which resulted in a little foul smelling wax to come out, but still very blocked, used in both ears eventually went almost deaf in both ears!

In desperation I went to have my ears micro- suctioned, in left ear, extremely painful, and even though all was was removed I still have TERRIBLE tinnitus in left ear, and its sore , been give ear drops

It STILL feels like its blocked however, like inside my head, so do I have a perforated ear drum? Doctor who removed wax said it looked sore but ear drums were fine... why the Tinnitus?

Taking Anti biotics for possible inner ear infection...

Could blocked sinuses cause this muffled sensation ?

Extreme discomfort can;t really sleep for the 'noise' in my left ear!!

What is my course of action now, is this it for the rest of my life ?

Will I go deaf in my left ear?

Normally I have 'prefect' hearing in fact I have Hyperacusis which means everything is louder that normal

so hyper in one ear, virtually deaf and Tinnitus in the other

Any help and advice gratefully appreciated!!

andrew

Hi Andrew

So sorry to hear you are suffering.

Can I please ask what sort of noise you are hearing?

A blocked ear can cause tinnitus and even when the wax is removed if the ear is very sore as in your case it could take weeks to settle down.

You mentioned your ear still feels blocked, if you have blocked sinuses you may also be suffering from eustachian dysfunction (please look up symptoms)

I have had this condition for the past 18 months and have a buzzing noise in my left ear, not only can I hear it I can actually feel it too. It does go off after I've eaten which the doctor says the chewing action opens your eustachian tubes.

I have to manually pop my ears by holding my nose and gently blowing.

My ears feel blocked and sometimes muffled, sometimes certain sounds are very loud sometimes normal. I also feel quite disoriented most of the time. I get pain down the side of my neck like I have a tight band running down and I get high pitched noises in both ears, they only last a few seconds but it scares me everytime.

It's an awful thing to have and I do feel for you if this is the case.

You need to see you GP or at least speak to them and explain your symptoms. It may be once your ear settles down it will be fine....ears take a long time to heal.

Good luck and please keep us updated

Take care.

Hi Lily

Many many thanks for your post... I had something similar when I last had my ears syringed years ago, terrible tinnitus that lasted a while, then it sort of settled down so just hoping it does the same, Sorry to hear you have had these symptoms for so long...I think I have something similar to you as it feels like its actually inside my head not just 'outside'... I probably do have sinus problems, I often get colds and blocked sinuses.... but never anything as awful as this ...

I wonder if there is some kind of operation to 'open' the sinuses more? or nasal sprays one can use, have you tried anything like that?

Its such as a 'pain' , literally, it affects every thing I do now... I know its lock down but I don;t actually feel like leaving my house as don;et want to hear any loud noises!

IS there anything you did or doing to alleviate it in any way?

Good luck I hope you get some improvement soon!!

Andrew

I've been to see an ENT specialist, had my hearing tested and had my ears microsuctioned and a tampanogram (I think that's what it's called to test if your ears can equalise the pressure) He told me I don't have ETD but mentioned something about nerve damage. Well my GP thinks different as I certainly don't have any nerve damage symptoms.

I am on Nasofan nasel spray at the moment, it's not doing much to clear my ears, however I find it stops my nose from blocking up and clears my sinuses. I was also prescribed a decongestant but never used it. Ha e a word with your doc and see what he says, he may prescribe a spray what helps. But I think your tinnitus will settle, if it has before so I wouldnt worry too much.

Yeah stress probably won't help! At the moment any sound is incredibly loud. ..Thats due to wax removal I get that but not sure about the continuing feeling of something still blocking my hearing ...I may have 'glue -ear' which is inner ear infection but I'm on strong antibiotics. ..it's just weird...

I wonder if it's worth you getting a ct scan of your head/ear so see what's really going on, ears are clearly very complex organs....

Good luck with amy treayment and many thanks for replying! ! It's helped a great deal!!

Hi King ... just read your post. I had a blocked ear 4 years ago and regrettably I had a grommet put in as it would not unblock with micro suction. After this I developed tinnitus . After many operations 7 in fact I am on my second cochlear implant . I have had tinnitus, pain and anxiety for 4 years and recently had micro suction again for a blocked ear. Unfortunately the Ent caused me more pain so I’m currently trying CBD oil for pain management. Ears are so sensitive , I wish now I didn’t have so much interference . Good luck, I hope you get some relief soon . Jenny

Hi Kingludwigll... I have just read your post, and it was like I wrote it !! ... had exactly the same with the wax , had microsuction 10 days ago, ringing in the left ear since, but this afternoon I got that awful muzzy feeling in my head on that side, and the sound in my ear was distorted, so I wonder if I have an inner ear infection due to the microsuction....😔

Hes I think you might, go back to doctors ,I had to have two lots of drops in the end, one the hopital gave me and then something called optomize, but get your ear looked at, its takes days even weeks for the ears t osettle down and its really shitty, I've still got tinnitus, but its very mild , I now have hypher acusis, so everything is louder, but I'll just have to live with that... try and avoid loud places and learn to de- stress, eat hwahlth y, get sleep, abvoid too much alcolhol and coffee etc, in time it'll settle, let the body heal itself, good luck!!
