New to the group, I will try and shorten it. My problem has been going on for ages and it seems am not getting anywhere. But so far reading post here I think am getting somewhere.
Few months ago I was referred to respiratory clinic, had a consult with the consultant over the phone who stated it was long Covid with likely Bronchitis due to my previous X-ray ct. last week he wrote a letter to my GP asking him to start me on me medication to clear the septum.
At the moment I have a chest infection which I was diagnosed over the phone and started on antibiotics and the GP didn’t mention the medication suggested. Sunday to Tuesday was bringing septum with specks of blood (maybe that’s why he suggested the antibiotics ). The respiratory doctor had also requested another ctscan for next week but due to the chest infection??? The ct has been postponed ( I don’t know why).
GP calls back and say that he needs an urgent ecg and bloods but will do it next week Monday also don’t understand why next week when it’s urgent.
I also have IBS/ constipation with bad acid reflux .
The mucus is really bad doesn’t seem to clear up, my chest feels just tired, the fatigue and shortness of breath.
What can I do to help 😥

Hi sorry to hear you are having such an awful time. Have you been diagnosed with Bronchiectasis? If you have you need a respiratory consultant who specialises in Bronchiectasis and your GP probably won’t be much help. I suspect the meds he suggested is carbocistene which loosens the mucus. Your GP should put this on a repeat prescription for you. You should also be referred to a physio to show you breathing exercises to get up the mucus. If you haven’t had this check out active cycle of breathing on YouTube. Bronchiectasis is usually diagnosed via a CT scan. Your course of antibiotics should be 14 days. I hope you get the help you need. X
Thank you Mooka, very helpful information. Waiting for the CT scan to confirm the diagnosis, which I was suppose to go next week only to be cancelled due to me(at the moment) having a questionable chest infection. And yes the antibiotics are for 14 days, so finger crossed this will help. I definitely check the YouTube video, because this mucus is absolutely not really shifting and it’s so annoying.
U should find the active cycle of breathing helpful - work hard with it at minimum of twice a day, every day.if u can keep lungs empty u will feel better+ maybe less infections. Also read up on & practise controlled breathing.i use it to walk, also any time I'm struggling.its a godsend to me
I have Cylindrical Bronchectasis ( I was born with it and its genetic) and did a course of Respiratory Rehabilitation a few years ago. Or lung gym ! I was taught huff coughing and it really works I was given a contact at Respitory Medicine so can ring them for antibiotics although my GP has them on repeat anyway. Breathing steam might help and if you can try to huff it will really help keep your chest clear. It should be online and I've not had an infection now for nearly two years. I was advised back then it might be a good idea to have and I did a course of 4 months antibiotics so that may have helped.
